First HoldCo Plc has released its unaudited Q1 2026 results, reporting a pre-tax profit of N321.12 billion for the period, representing an increase of 72.20% compared to N186.48 billion recorded in Q1 2025.

Profit after tax also rose to N267.80 billion, up 56.52% from N171.10 billion reported in the corresponding period of 2025. Earnings per share increased to N6.00, compared to N4.72 in Q1 2025.

The strong bottom-line performance was supported by growth in both interest and non-interest income.

Troops of the Nigerian Army have busted two illegal arms manufacturing factories in Plateau State and arrested five suspects allegedly involved in the fabrication of weapons.

The development was disclosed on Friday by Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, in a statement issued on behalf of the military operation.

According to the statement, the operation was carried out on Thursday, May 7, 2026, by troops of the Quick Response Force under Operation ENDURING PEACE in Vom, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Airtel Africa Plc has recorded strong profitability for the financial year ended March 31, 2026, with pretax profit rising 114.67% year-on-year to $1.41 billion.

This performance was supported by revenue growth to $6.4 billion from $4.9 billion, driven mainly by data revenue of $2.5 billion and voice revenue of $2.3 billion.

In addition, mobile money contributed $1.08 billion to revenue, while other business segments accounted for the remaining share of the company’s topline performance.

This was supported by an expanding customer base, which grew by 10.5% to 183.5 million, with data customers rising to 84.2 million as smartphone pe*******on improved by 4.7% to 49.5%.

Commenting on the performance, Sunil Taldar, Chief Executive Officer, said, “Adoption of new digital technologies and AI has been pivotal in unlocking growth opportunities and driving efficiencies” across operations.

The Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC) has revealed plans to commence the pilot rollout of 24/7 electricity franchise zones across Lagos by October 2026 as part of efforts to transform the state’s electricity market.

The disclosure was made by the Commission’s Chief Executive Officer, Temitope George, during the commission’s maiden stakeholder engagement at The Cordis Hotel on Thursday.

The initiative forms part of LASERC’s Short-Term Regulatory Agenda, which outlines strategic milestones aimed at repositioning Lagos’ electricity market for efficiency, innovation, and reliability through 2030.

The Federal High Court in Abuja has overruled the no-case submission filed by politician and activist Omoyele Sowore against the amended alleged cyberbullying charges brought by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Justice Umar Mohammed overruled Sowore’s application in a ruling delivered on Friday.

Nairametrics previously reported that the Federal Government of Nigeria had removed Meta (Facebook) and Elon Musk’s X Inc. (formerly Twitter) from the amended alleged cyberbullying charges.

NGX Regulation Limited (NGX RegCo) has tightened compliance requirements for online trading platforms, warning that Trading Licence Holders (TLHs) deploying digital trading systems without prior regulatory approval could attract sanctions.

The directive was contained in a recent circular signed by the Head of the Market Regulation Department, Chinedu Akamaka, and issued to all Trading Licence Holders, highlighting regulatory moves to strengthen investor protection, cybersecurity standards, and market integrity across Nigeria’s capital market.

The revised compliance reminder mandates all brokers operating or planning to launch web-based or mobile trading platforms to obtain written approval from NGX RegCo before deployment, migration, or introduction of any new digital trading infrastructure.
