The consistent destruction of Igbo properties and businesses in Lagos State calls into question the relevance and utility of the Igbo political and economic elites.
Excepting the show of solidarity by some political leaders, the business elite have not in unison with the political elite raised a combined voice of alert at the budgeoning spectres of tribalism or ethnic inclinations of the destructions and pulling down of structures.
The Question has been raised on the legality and constitutionality of Lagos State Government actions of pulling down structures within the enclaves owned by the Federal Government. There is a crying need to determine these through the Supreme Court proclamation.
Questions have again been raised on the real intentions of the State Government who destroy structures and businesses as the nation ploughs through the harshest economic realities. It would appear that there is an agenda to stifle the businesses of the target Igbo population who largely are traders and businessmen in Lagos.
Some opinions have held that the Igbo are under the siege and attrition of the Lagos State who viewed grossly aggrieved at the overwhelming Igbo voting of the Labour party in 2023. The air of retribution is severely laden.. So many have have converted into the belief of a deliberate retributive and punitive clampdown of the Igbo commencing from their businesses and commercial endeavours.
Ethnic chauvinism has been largely fingered.
