The Accredited Financial Planners' Association is a unique professional association for practicing and prospective financial planners especially those interested in practicing within the African continent. The Association is established to promote the financial planning profession through quality assured training and certification of those fit to practice as Accredited Financial Planners (AFP).

SUMMARY OF DEVELOPMENTS

1. AFAn facilitated the establishment of another professional body in 2020 - The Accredited Financial Planners Association awarding the Chartered Financial Planner CFP qualification.

2. AFAn has successfully upgraded its qualification nomenclature from Certified Financial Analyst to CHARTERED FINANCIAL ANALYST (legally registered).

3. AFAn facilitated the establishment of the Sector Skills Council for the Financial Planning & Analysis profession in Nigeria named the FINANCIAL PLANNING SKILLS INSTITUTE (FPSI).

4. FPSI has commenced the accreditation process under the Nigeria Skills Qualifications Framework overssen by NBTEs National Council on Skills headed by the Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria. At this point, CFA qualification is now rated as a Degree level qualification which accords it local and international recognition in over 145 countries.

5. FPSI has introduced the Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Engineering (the first to introduce Financial Engineering qualification in Nigeria in 2024).

6. FPSI is now the Sector Skills Council that will regulated the practice of Financial Planning and Analysis in Nigeria in conjunction with NBTE.

7. FPSI also introduced the Professional certifications in sustainability accounting, reporting, and assurance in 2024, the first in West Africa.

The Association of Financial Analysts of Nigeria (AFAN) is a professional body dedicated to enhancing the expertise and ethical standards of financial analysts across the country. AFAN provides specialized training and professional certification to equip its members with the necessary skills to become certified financial analysts in Nigeria.

As part of its commitment to professional excellence, AFAN is organizing an Induction and Mandatory Continuous Professional Workshop (MCPW) for its members on February 20th and 21st, 2025, in Abuja. This workshop will serve as a platform for newly inducted members to be formally welcomed into the association, while also providing existing members with updated insights on emerging trends in financial analysis.

The event will feature seasoned financial experts, policymakers, and industry leaders who will deliver in-depth training sessions, panel discussions, and networking opportunities aimed at strengthening the competencies of financial analysts in Nigeria.

All AFAN members are encouraged to participate in this important professional development event to enhance their knowledge, uphold industry best practices, and maintain their certification as financial analysts.
