Seplat Energy has rewritten Nigerian market history, crossing N10,000 per share as local capital gains influence.

Shares closed at N10,450 on April 14, marking the first time in the Nigerian Exchange's 65-year history a company breached the level. The rally, up 80 percent since January, added roughly N2.9 trillion in market value.

At the center is Tony Elumelu's Heirs Energies, which acquired a 20.07 percent stake in December 2025 for 496 million dollars. The holding is now valued above 800 million dollars, reflecting a 300 million dollar paper gain in about four months.

The surge also reflects improving fundamentals. Seplat reported 2.73 billion dollars in revenue, 497.8 million dollars in pretax profit, and production of 131,506 boepd after consolidating offshore assets.

Analysts say the move signals growing African ownership of strategic energy assets, supported by stronger governance and expected foreign inflows.
