Money that should have been paid out but somehow wasn't claimed due to various reasons. These monies could come from your insurance claims which have been approved for payment, profits declared for distributions, matured FD, salaries, bonuses, dividend, bank savings, bank draft or other types of payments.

One common reason why money remains unclaimed is because the legal beneficiaries don’t know about the money after the owner passes away. This is especially true if the owner dies unexpectedly. Other reasons could be having money in a savings account that you've left idle for years or even having incorrect auto credit number leading to transactional failure etc.

Well, you'd never know if you actually have any unclaimed money until you checked.
All you need to do is to register for an account via Jabatan Akauntan Negara Malaysia's eGUMIS portal and run a check on your IC Number, new and old (if any). If you have unclaimed money, it will show up in the search result.

But don’t stop at checking your own account; if you have elderly parents or family members, do help them to check as well. You are entitled to two IDs searches in a day!

p/s: Please be reminded that the Ministry of Finance or the Registrar of Unclaimed Money doesn’t appoint any individual / firm / company as agents for the refund of unclaimed monies. Be extra careful if anyone claims that they can help you claim the money. 😉
