Cancer Treatment Outpatient Claim
Although most of the medical cards offer cashless admission service (with Guarantee Letter issued), but cancer treatment such as chemotherapy which is usually outpatient (i.e. need not stay overnight in the hospital) will not have GL being issued. Hence customer is expected to pay first and file claim later. Generally, the claim process is fast enough to pay for the next chemotherapy fee on the next visit after the first 1-2 claims. Therefore customers need to prepare some fund for the first 1-2 chemotherapy fees.

虽然大部分的医疗卡都提供无现金入院服务（具有
Guarantee Letter），但癌症治疗如化疗通常是门诊（即不需要在医院过夜）所以不会有GL。因此，客户应先付款，然后再提出索赔。通常索赔过程相对快，索赔金额通常会在 1-2 周后发出，以便支付后续的治疗费用。因此客户需要为头1-2次化疗费用准备一些资金。

❓Does my policy cover death due to COVID-19? ❓

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the COVID-19 or coronavirus as pandemic.

So, now the question rises, will a life insurance policy cover the death of a policyholder due to coronavirus? Also, will you be able to get a life insurance policy after contracting the virus?

If the individual who passes away due to the coronavirus had a life insurance policy, the nominee of the policy will get the sum assured as the death benefit.

Existing life insurance policyholders are covered. While some life insurance policies have exclusions for a specific cause of death, coronavirus will be covered if you already have an existing life insurance policy. In the rare event, if you die from a pandemic illness, your beneficiary will receive the death benefit.

If you are planning on buying a life insurance policy at this point in time, then you should keep in mind that insurers determine the premiums of a policy on the basis of your health and medical history. Hence, it's reasonable to assume that a global health crisis like the coronavirus would have some impact on your policy acceptance and premiums, if you are currently in the application process stage.
If your life insurance policy application is in process, the insurer may hold or even reject the policy if you have already contracted the coronavirus infection. As long as the policyholder has disclosed all details correctly at the time of buying the life insurance policy, wherein the person was not infected with coronavirus, the death benefit claim would be payable even if it arises due to death from coronavirus infection afterwards.

Is suicidal covered by insurance?

Yes, if only the exclusion period ends.

If the Life Assured commits su***de within twelve (12) months from the Issue Date, Alteration Effective Date or the Reinstatement Date, whichever is the latest, this policy shall become void whether he/she is sane or insane.

The death benefit shall not be payable and the Company shall only refund the unallocated premiums, the value of units that have been allocated (if any) at unit price at the next valuation date, any insurance charge, policy fee, and any applicable tax that have been deducted less any medical fee incurred and benefit paid.

In layman term, while the beneficiaries are not entitled to death benefits if a su***de occurs during a policy’s suicidal clause, they may receive a refund of the premiums that were paid into the policy before the death.

However, after the exclusion period ends, the policy's beneficiaries can receive a death benefit if the covered person dies by su***de after that date. The reason behind of having such clause is insurance companies want to prevent people from having a financial incentive to take their own lives. That’s why often life insurance policies include a su***de clause, also known as a su***de provision.

自杀死亡的话保险可以赔吗？

有的，只要自杀条款期结束。

如果受保人自签发日期、变更生效日期或恢复日期（以较晚者为准）起十二 (12) 个月内自杀，则无论他/她是正常还是精神错乱，本保单均将失效。

死亡抚恤金不予支付，本公司仅退还未分配的保费、在下一个估值日以单价分配的单位价值（如有）、任何保险费用、保单费用和任何适用税金已扣除已产生的任何医疗费用和已支付的福利。

通俗地说，如果在保单的自杀条款12个月期内发生自杀，受益人无权获得死亡抚恤金，但他们可能会收到死亡前支付给保单的保费的退款。

但是，在自杀条款结束后，如果受保人在该日期之后自杀身亡，则该保单的受益人可以获得死亡抚恤金。保险公司之所以有这样的条款，是因为他们想要防止人们因金钱上的诱因来结束自己的生命。这就是为什么人寿保险单通常包含自杀条款。

🍻 DOES INSURANCE COVER CLAIMS ARISING FROM DRINK DRIVING?

First of all, we do not encourage driving with the influence of alcohol. This is merely just for the general knowledge pertaining to such scenario.

✅ Death/TPD
Generally are claimable, however certain products have specifically excluded such scenario, so best is still refer back to your policy contract.

❌ Personal Accident / Accidental Death
Most instances not claimable, as generally there will be exclusion clause on accidents caused by illegal activities, and drink driving in Malaysian law is considered illegal.

❌ Medical Card
Most instances not claimable too, as generally there will be exclusion clause on medical attention required that is caused by illegal activities, and drink driving in Malaysian law is considered illegal.

What is Free Look Period ? You can always surrender your newly inforced policy within the first 15 days, with full refund of your premium paid, with no question ask. This is your absolute right. It applies to all insurance companies in Malaysia.

In Hong Leong Assurance Berhad (HLA), this is how we explain as below.

Free Look Period
A period of time (usually 15 days) during which a policyholder may examine a newly issued individual life or health insurance, and surrender it in exchange for a full refund of premium less expenses incurred for the medical examination of the life policyholder, if not satisfied for any reason.

什么是犹豫期？新保单持有人可以在规定 15 天内退保新生效的保单，并全额退还您已支付的保费，无需提出任何问题，包括缴付退保费等罚。这是你的绝对权利。它适用于马来西亚的所有保险公司。
