The overall revenue of top 16 Indian companies increased by 30.6% compared to the year before with major growth driven by players in the energy, materials and utilities industry.

Did you know combined the top 16 Indian companies generated more than ₹56,00,000 crore (₹56 trillion) in revenue in the last twelve months? Notably, that is approx. 35.8% of India's Gross Domestic Product for 2022.

Despite major geopolitical and financial headwinds, Indian M&A activity in YTD 2022 (Jan to Sept) has been resilient. With 538 deals totalling a transaction value of INR 577,424 crores, M&A in YTD 2022, India outperformed YTD 2021 by 14% rise in deal volume and a spike of 284% in terms of deal value driven by a handful of high value deals top two being the merger of HDFC and HDFC bank and acquisition of Sembcorp Energy. M&A megadeals in sectors such as information technology, renewable energy and finance reflected the continued interest in consolidation.

India GST update: Exemption on services by way of transportation of goods from India to outside India is not extended after September 30, 2022. Hence, GST would apply on such service from October 1, 2022. To mitigate payment of GST on such transportation services, the exporter of goods may have re-look its arrangement for such transportation services. The exporter of goods is, however, eligible to claim input tax credit of GST paid.
