• Indian footwear industry may gain with its major rival in China losing its hold on the business. While China’s export share stands at more than 70 per cent in volume terms, with the country selling almost three out of every four pairs of footwear exported worldwide, India’s share is merely 1.9 per cent in value at the moment.
• However, China’s exports are dominated by non-leather footwear. With labour costs in China on the rise, and the country gradually moving towards manufacturing of value-added goods, leading importing countries are now shifting their sourcing low cost countries like Vietnam, Philippines and India.

• Skymet Company plans to raise at least $20 million that will fund plans to go global. The plan is to have a stronger pan-India presence and expand all business lines.
• Skymet wants to make their website a global weather data website, with properties like long- and medium-term forecasts, and serve the under-served geographies like East Asia and Africa.
• Skymet reported revenue of Rs. 9.48 crore in 2013-14, a jump of almost 100% over the previous year, according to data available with the Registrar of Companies. It reported a loss of Rs.0.89 crore in 2014.

• When it came to matters of social well-being, 36% of Indians said they were suffering – an inordinately high number, according to an extensive global poll just conducted by Gallup.
• Only 16% of Indians reported being happy with their day-to-day lives, while only one in five Indians said they were happy with their financial situation.
• One in two says they are struggling. Indians lag behind the world average in four of the five categories, only besting it for community well-being. The index of well-being devised from the data ranks India 71st out of 135 countries.
