SBI Energy Opportunity Fund-
Normally I stay away from NFO unless the fund has really something new to offer and adds real value in my client's portfolio.
Why I am fascinated towards SBI Energy Fund?
1. Energy consumption is closely tied to economic growth. As India rises to become the world's third largest economy, its energy consumption is poised for significant growth. This rising demand creates robust investment opportunities across various energy segments
2. The Fund follows a Barbel Portfolio Approach which helps in maximizing return and minimizing risk.
3. The SBI Energy Opportunities Fund will be benchmarked against the Nifty Energy TRI. This index has given returns of around 71 per cent in the last 12 months, as of February 5, 2024. That's mainly due to a few top public sector stocks, such as NTPC , Power Grid , ONGC , and Coal India , gunning out returns in the range of 70 per cent to 105 per cent in the last 12 months
4. The SBI Energy Fund will also look at investing in overseas companies. The fund can invest up to 35 per cent of its money in international stocks.
5. Renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geothermal, biomass etc) currently accounts for 22%. Renewable energy is expected to grow at an accelerated pace due to favorable Government policies (source: SBI MF, CY 2019)
6. With a shift from combustion to electrification (i.e. shift to electric vehicles), energy consumption of coal & oil to grow at 6.4% CAGR through 2050.
7. Government targets to increase the share of natural gas from current ~6.5% to 15% by 2030. Accordingly, national gas grid has been expanded by 40% over past 5 years. Emphasis has been laid on expansion of city gas distribution (CGD) networks by bidding out districts covering 95% of the population
