McCarty drew global attention after it was announced in July 1995 that she had established a trust through which at her death, a portion of her life's savings would be left to the university to provide scholarships for deserving students in need of financial assistance. It is important to know that maturity is not measured by age, rather it is attitude built by experience.

Here are 12 traits of a mature person.

1. Comfortable being alone: Mature people are comfortable being on their own, and don’t need approval from anyone to be happy nor always need friends or people around them. But immature people need to be the centre of attention, battle with insecurity and engage in bullying.

2. Accept differences: Mature people accept that everyone is different and will have different opinions. They don’t need everyone to think or act as they do.

3. Rational decisions: A mature person’s decisions are based on character, not feeling.

4. Emotional Independence: They are not dependent financially or emotionally on their parents or others. They tend to make their own life decisions.

5. Treating others right: They don’t put someone down or make fun of someone because that’s not how they get their self-esteem. They are already confident in themselves.

6. Taking responsibility: They don’t blame others for their failures and try to take responsibility on how to improve the situation rather than complain.

7. Listening more than talking: They have two ears and one mouth, and they use them in that proportion.

8. Honesty: They don’t try to deceive or manipulate others for their gains. They present their desires on and it’s okay if no becomes the answer, without being offended.

9. Actions: A mature person seeks wisdom before acting.

10. Mature conversations: They like to talk about deep meaningful topics about life and nature with a sense of wonder and curiosity.

11. Never clinging: They don’t emotionally cling to people and if someone isn’t the right fit for them, they are not afraid to let them go.

12. Not chasing: They don't chase money, new car nor someone. They know where true happiness is, in the present.
