🇬🇪 Can I Run a Business in Georgia as a Foreign Citizen?
Yes — foreign citizens can establish and operate businesses in Georgia.
But registering a business is only the beginning. Before starting operations, it is important to understand how the legal structure, taxation, accounting and compliance requirements apply to your specific activity.
What should you consider?
1️⃣ Choose the right legal structure
Depending on your business model, you may consider operating as an Individual Entrepreneur (IE) or establishing a Limited Liability Company (LLC).
2️⃣ Understand your tax obligations
Your tax position depends on several factors, including your legal structure, type of activity, turnover, transactions and applicable tax status.
3️⃣ Set up accounting from the beginning
Proper accounting helps you keep financial records organized, meet reporting obligations and understand the financial position of your business.
4️⃣ Consider VAT and other tax requirements
Depending on your activities and circumstances, VAT registration and other tax obligations may become relevant.
5️⃣ Check immigration and work-related requirements
Business ownership, residence status and the right to work are separate legal matters. Foreign entrepreneurs should check which requirements apply to their individual situation.
6️⃣ Think beyond registration
Banking, contracts, invoicing, employees, payroll and ongoing tax compliance should all be considered when planning your business.
The key point
Registering a business in Georgia can be relatively straightforward. Running it correctly requires proper planning.
At BFA Accounting, we assist foreign entrepreneurs with:
• Business & IE Registration
• Accounting & Bookkeeping
• Tax Consulting & Compliance
• Financial Reporting
• Work Authorization & Residence-Related Support

5 Tax Mistakes Businesses Should Avoid
Tax mistakes are not always caused by ignoring the rules. Quite often, they happen because tax matters are addressed too late.
Here are 5 common tax mistakes businesses should avoid:
1. Planning taxes after the transaction
Tax implications should be considered before signing contracts, making significant payments, or changing the structure of a transaction. Once it is completed, your options may be limited.
2. Missing tax deadlines
Late declarations or payments can create unnecessary penalties, interest and additional administrative work. A clear tax calendar helps businesses stay compliant.
3. Using the wrong tax treatment
Not every transaction should be treated the same way. Domestic and international transactions, services, imports, payments to individuals and cross-border arrangements may have different tax consequences.
4. Poor supporting documentation
Invoices, contracts, payment documents and other supporting records matter. Correct accounting entries alone may not be enough if a transaction cannot be properly documented.
5. Focusing only on the amount of tax payable
Good tax management is not simply about paying less tax. Businesses should also consider compliance, cash flow, transaction structure and potential future risks.
The better approach?
Plan first. Document properly. Review regularly.
Tax should be part of the business decision-making process — not something considered only when a declaration deadline arrives.

How Good Accounting Helps Growth

Good accounting is not just about recording transactions or meeting tax deadlines.

When financial information is accurate, timely and well-organized, it becomes a powerful tool for business growth.

How does good accounting support growth?

📊 Better financial visibility
Understand where your revenue comes from, where money is being spent, and how the business is actually performing.

💰 Stronger cash flow management
Profit does not always mean available cash. Proper accounting helps businesses anticipate payments, manage liquidity and plan ahead.

📈 More informed decisions
Reliable financial data helps business owners evaluate investments, control costs, set realistic budgets and identify opportunities.

⚠️ Earlier identification of risks
Unexpected expenses, declining margins or growing liabilities are easier to address when your numbers are monitored regularly.

🚀 Better preparation for expansion
As transaction volumes, employees and operations grow, a strong accounting system makes scaling more manageable.

🤝 Greater financial credibility
Clear and reliable financial records are important when dealing with banks, investors, partners and other stakeholders.

Growth creates complexity. Good accounting helps businesses stay in control of it.

At BFA Accounting, we believe accounting should do more than record the past — it should help businesses understand their present and plan their next steps.

Georgia’s Domestic Tourism: Where Are Georgians Spending Their Money?

When we talk about tourism in Georgia, we often focus on international visitors.

But Georgians travelling within the country also generate significant economic activity.

According to Geostat, in Q2 2026:

👥 1.365 million Georgian residents aged 15+ travelled domestically each month on average.

🧳 They made around 1.699 million visits per month.

Where did they go?

📍 Imereti — 377.4K visits/month
📍 Tbilisi — 377.4K visits/month

These were the two areas with the highest average number of visits.

Why did people travel?

👨‍👩‍👧 Visiting friends & relatives — 52.6%
🛍️ Shopping — 13.4%
🏖️ Holiday, leisure & recreation — 10.6%
🏠 Visiting another house/cottage — 9.3%
🏥 Health & medical care — 8.6%

And the spending is significant.

💰 GEL 300.7 million was spent per month on average — 7.2% more than a year earlier.

Average spending reached GEL 177 per visit.

The biggest spending categories were:

🛍️ Shopping — GEL 102.6m
🚗 Transport — GEL 64.5m
🍽️ Food & drinks — GEL 61.3m

So domestic tourism is not only a story about hotels and tourist destinations.

It is also a story about retail, transport, restaurants, food businesses and local services.

📊 Domestic travel moves money — and creates demand across different parts of the economy.

WHEN SHOULD YOU HIRE AN ACCOUNTANT?

Many business owners ask this question:

“Do I really need an accountant yet?”

The answer often comes earlier than expected.

You should consider professional accounting support when you:

🔹 Start a new business
🔹 Begin issuing invoices or receiving regular payments
🔹 Hire employees
🔹 Start dealing with VAT or other tax obligations
🔹 Have growing business expenses and transactions
🔹 Need reliable financial reports
🔹 Want to understand your cash flow and profitability
🔹 Start working with international clients or suppliers

Waiting until the business becomes “big enough” can make accounting more complicated and increase the risk of missed obligations, errors and unexpected costs.

Good accounting is not only about submitting tax declarations.

It helps you understand your numbers, stay compliant and make better business decisions.

💡 The right time to organize your accounting is usually before it becomes a problem.

Georgia’s Transport Economy: More Than Roads and Tourism

When we think about transportation in Georgia, we often think about roads, cars and tourism.

But the transport economy is much bigger.

In Q2 2026, Georgia’s Transportation and Storage sector recorded:

📦 GEL 3.5 billion in turnover
👥 67.5 thousand people employed
💰 GEL 2,714 average monthly remuneration

The sector includes much more than road transport — it also covers railway, air transport, maritime transport and storage activities.

Why does this matter?

Because an efficient transport network supports:

🔹 Trade and logistics
🔹 Import and export activities
🔹 Warehousing and distribution
🔹 Regional connectivity
🔹 Tourism and passenger movement
🔹 Business expansion and investment

For a country located between major European and Asian markets, transportation is not only about moving people.

It is also about connecting businesses, goods and markets.

📊 The bigger question:
Can Georgia further develop its transport and logistics potential and strengthen its role as a regional connectivity hub?

Why Financial Reports Matter 📊

Financial reports are not just paperwork.

They help business owners understand what is really happening inside their business.

Good financial reporting can help you:

✅ Understand revenue, expenses and profitability
✅ Monitor cash and financial resources
✅ Track business growth
✅ Identify financial risks
✅ Make better business decisions
✅ Plan future investments and expenses
✅ Provide reliable information to banks, investors and business partners

For a growing business, financial reports should be useful throughout the year, not only when a reporting deadline approaches.

Your numbers tell a story. Financial reports help you understand it.

Inflation in Georgia: How Are Businesses Responding? 📈🇬🇪

Annual inflation in Georgia reached 5.6% in August 2026, according to Geostat. Monthly inflation was 0.4%.

The main price increases were recorded in:

🚗 Transport: +15.2% 🍎 Food and non-alcoholic beverages: +5.0% 🏠 Housing, utilities and fuel: +8.5% 🏥 Health: +5.2%

For businesses, inflation can mean:

Higher operating costs;

More expensive transportation and supplies;

Pressure on profit margins;

Changes in customer demand;

Greater need for cash-flow planning.

Businesses may need to review their expenses, pricing, supplier agreements, and financial forecasts more frequently.

Inflation affects every business differently — depending on its sector, costs, customers, and pricing model.

Financial Reporting Deadline 🇬🇪📑

A reminder for businesses in Georgia:

October 1, 2026 is the deadline for submitting the 2025 financial statements for entities required to report under Georgian law.

Depending on the company’s category and legal status, the reporting package may include:

✅ Financial statements ✅ Management report, where required ✅ Audit report, where required ✅ Other required reports and information

Financial reporting is not the same as submitting tax declarations. Businesses should review their accounting records and prepare the required documents before the deadline.

Do not leave annual financial reporting until the last minute.
