Advent Accountants

Advent Accountants Chartered management accountants supporting charities, tutors, the performing arts and health and social care organisations. But it is more than a strapline.

Blending accounting and financial management services, we will navigate your numbers and grow with you. Our mission is to help the people who help people. That’s why we work with four core specialisms: charities, tutors, the performing arts and health and social care. Our strapline is navigating numbers, growing with you. It is the golden thread that runs through our accountancy practice. We want

your business or charity to have a sustainable future. As chartered management accountants, we don’t just check your accounts once a year; we plan for your growth with you. But we know choosing an accountant can feel overwhelming. Many of our clients have never worked with an accountant before. That’s one of the reasons why our name is Advent Accountants. Advent means new beginnings or arrivals. It forms the word adventure, which felt fitting to honour the journey you take with us from a start-up or solo business to a growing company. Or from a small charity to a national name. You’ll also find Advent in advancement. We’ll always listen to the services you need because it’s about advancing your business or non-profit organisation. We offer:

• Bookkeeping
• End of year accounts
• Management accounts
• Corporation tax returns
• Self-assessments
• Management advice
• Company formation services
• Insurance claims
• Tax planning
• Pricing strategies
• Fractional Finance Director services
• Charity independent examination

With branches in York and Hastings, we work with clients across the UK, both locally and nationally. Let’s plan for your future today.

VAT for tutors 💳

As a tutor, you might think you automatically qualify for the VAT education exception. But it’s not that straightforward.

If you’re a sole trader with no employees and you hit the VAT threshold, you’ll qualify for the education exception. If you’re a sole trader and you employ people, the work they do counts towards your threshold. If you and your team go over the threshold, you will have to register for VAT.

If you’re trading via a limited company, even if you’re the sole employee and director, you must register for VAT.

It’s important to get your VAT right, so you avoid penalties and fines, and your cash flow remains healthy.

As accountants for tutors, we’ll advise you on whether a sole trader or limited structure is best for your tutoring business. If you need to register for VAT, we’ll help you plan for it.
