The most common money block I see in growing businesses is avoidance.

Simply putting the numbers to one side because they feel heavy. Here’s how it often shows up:
1. You “mean to” check your accounts every week… but weeks pass and nothing happens.
2. You make big decisions from the bank balance instead of clear reports.
3. You feel a bit of dread when someone mentions tax, year end or cashflow.

If any of that sounds familiar, here are 3 gentle first steps you can take:
Step 1 – Look at one thing only
Instead of opening everything, choose one number to check this week, for example, your total sales this month. Nothing else.

Step 2 – Write down what you notice
On a piece of paper or in Notes:
– Is it higher or lower than you expected?
– Is there anything that surprises you?
This isn’t about judgement, it’s just information.

Step 3 – Ask one question
What is one question you’d love a clear answer to about your finances?
Write it down. That’s the starting point for your next step, whether you research, or ask your accountant.

You don’t have to fix everything at once.
You just have to start looking in a way that feels manageable.

The good news? You can still make this stress-free by breaking it down into simple steps.

Here’s how to tackle it without panic:
✔ Step 1: Gather your income records
Employment, self-employment, dividends, rental income, get everything in one place.
✔ Step 2: Check your allowable expenses. Think travel, home office, subscriptions, professional fees.
✔ Step 3: File as soon as you can
Even now, filing early means peace of mind and time to plan for your payment.
