We’re starting the week on a high and it’s all thanks to the people who matter most: the candidates who have chosen to work with us and shared their experiences along the way.

As a payroll and accountancy partner, we know our role goes far beyond numbers on a payslip or balancing the books. It’s about trust, clarity and making sure people feel supported at every stage of their journey.

Over the past weeks, we’ve been fortunate to receive some fantastic feedback from candidates who’ve worked with our team. They’ve highlighted the things we care about most - clear communication, genuine support and a smooth, stress-free experience from first conversation through to placement and beyond.

It’s always rewarding to hear that our approach is making a real difference. Whether it’s helping someone step into a new role with confidence, or ensuring payroll runs seamlessly so they can focus on their work, these moments remind us why we do what we do.

To everyone who has taken the time to share feedback - thank you. It doesn’t go unnoticed and it continues to shape how we improve and grow.

If you’re a Recruiter looking for a payroll partner who truly understands the importance of accuracy, compliance and candidate experience, we’d love to connect and support your placements.

Get in touch with our team today and let’s make your next step a positive one.

Hundreds of UK employers penalised for underpaying staff.

389 employers have been named for failing to meet National Minimum Wage rules.
£7.3m repaid to 60,000 workers - plus £12.6m in fines.

For recruitment agencies, this hits close to home.

Complex supply chains = shared responsibility = higher risk and HMRC doesn’t consider intent - mistakes still mean penalties of up to 200% and public naming.

Where agencies get caught out:
• Unpaid travel between assignments
• Pre/post-shift time (inductions, briefings)
• Deductions (uniforms, DBS, accommodation)
• Incorrect age/apprentice rates
• Payroll vs. on-site reality mismatches

In high-volume temp sectors, these risks multiply fast.

And it’s not just financial - reputational damage can be immediate.

With the Fair Work Agency increasing scrutiny, compliance is becoming a frontline business risk, not a back-office task.

Now is the time to act:
• Audit pay and working time
• Review deductions carefully
• Align contracts with clients
• Stress-test payroll systems
• Train teams on real-world compliance

Margins are tight. Enforcement is rising.

Right to Work checks are no longer just a exercise - they’re becoming a core compliance function for recruiters in 2026.

With increased enforcement, fines up to £60,000 per worker and a shift toward fully digital verification - getting RTW checks right has never been more important.

🔍 What’s changing?
• Move to digital-first checks (eVisas & IDVT providers)
• Potential expansion to gig workers, zero-hours staff & supply chains
• Greater Home Office scrutiny and stricter enforcement

What this means:
• Higher compliance risk
• More responsibility across the recruitment supply chain
• Increased need for robust processes and audit trails

✅ How to stay ahead:
• Audit your RTW processes
• Adopt digital verification systems
• Train your teams
• Strengthen record-keeping

In short: RTW checks are evolving and recruiters need to evolve with them.

What do the latest legislative changes mean for recruitment businesses?

Our very own Rob Leake, joined Neil Carberry (REC), Daniel Haslam (Giant Group) and Sébastien Sauca (SafeRec) on the latest episode of the Talking Recruitment Podcast to discuss joint and several liability, compliance risk and how the recruitment supply chain is evolving.

One of the key challenges recruiters face this year is navigating two pieces of legislation that pull the sector in different directions – making it more important than ever to review how workers are engaged and how supply chains are structured.

New employment legislation takes effect this April, is your current provider fully compliant and up to speed?

As we approach the end of February, it’s hard to ignore just how quickly 2026 is moving.

But while the months are flying by, so too are the changes shaping the future of employment law.

The Employment Rights Bill is no longer something that's “on the horizon.” It’s on your doorstep.

With significant legislative updates coming into effect in April, businesses cannot afford to take a wait-and-see approach. Now is the time to:

✔ Review your current employment strategy
✔ Ensure your policies and procedures reflect upcoming changes
✔ Confirm your current provider is fully compliant and up to speed
✔ Assess any risk exposure within your workforce model

Failing to prepare could mean compliance gaps, financial risk and operational disruption.

If you’re unsure how the impending changes will impact your business, now is the time to act - not in April when the legislation is already live.

Our team of experts are working closely with businesses to review readiness, strengthen compliance frameworks and provide clarity around what the new regulations mean in practical terms.

Book a consultation with us ASAP 0333 121 2001 or [email protected] and speak with one of our specialists to assess how prepared your organisation really is.

Don't let April arrive before you do.

Today, 25th February, is 'Quiet Day'. A reminder to pause and appreciate the power of silence.

Modern life is loud! from trains and offices to classrooms and constant notifications, we are surrounded by noise. Over time, that constant stimulation can become overwhelming.

For centuries, traditions in India and practices rooted in Buddhism, such as Vipassana meditation, have shown the value of intentional silence. Quiet isn’t empty; it’s clarifying.

Research and experience tell us that quiet:
• Reduces stress
• Improves focus
• Supports emotional wellbeing
• Helps us reset mentally

Quiet Day may last just one day, but its impact can extend far beyond that.

Today, turn down the volume.
Pause before responding.
Listen more than you speak.

Sometimes the most powerful move is simply being still.

Recruiters: If you're not already, now is the time to review your service partner strategy and payroll setup.

As a recruitment business, of course it's important to focus on immediate delivery and client demand, but, overlooking compliance, payroll structures and partner models now could create significant risk later.

Here are a few reasons to act early:

• Compliance expectations are tightening - Responsibility and accountability across supply chains are increasing. Understanding exactly how your contractors are engaged and paid is becoming critical.

• Service partner due diligence matters more than ever – Umbrella providers, payroll partners and outsourced services must be transparent, financially stable and aligned with upcoming regulatory changes.

• Client scrutiny is rising – More end clients are asking detailed questions about contractor engagement models, audit trails and employment status risk. Being prepared protects both revenue and reputation.

• Change takes time – Reviewing partners, auditing payroll processes and implementing safer engagement models cannot be done overnight. Early preparation avoids disruption later.

The recruiters who will navigate the upcoming changes most successfully, are those who start reviewing their supply chain now.

If you’re a recruitment leader, it’s worth asking:
Are we confident in our current partners, processes and payroll models for the year ahead?

If you're unsure and want to talk it through, get in touch with an experienced NumberMill Ltd consultant 0333 121 2001 or [email protected]

Sounds like a simple question right?

Actually, it’s one of the hardest questions for businesses to answer. Mostly because they just don’t know what’s possible or what’s out there. Lack of time can also be a factor. With pursuit of growth taking priority, there’s hardly any opportunity to go back and review the original "blueprint".

That’s where we come in. As consultants first, we start by understanding your challenges, your goals and your unique context. Only then can we help you uncover solutions that actually move the needle.

For recruitment teams, this means:

- Identifying gaps you might not even see in your current processes

- Exploring strategies and tools that are proven to work in your sector

- Helping you make decisions that are practical, actionable and future-proof

Because knowing what you need is the first step toward making smarter decisions and achieving lasting results.

Let’s talk about how consultancy-led recruitment solutions can make a difference. Click below to take that first step and book in with one of our experts:
