P&L Accountancy & Bookkeeping Limited I offer accountancy services to all types of businesses, small and large. Please contact me for a free, no obligation initial meeting.

I can help you with your bookkeeping through to preparing our accounts and filing your personal tax return. I can take your accounting records in whatever format you have (excel spreadsheets, computer accounting package, even a carrier bag of receipts!) and prepare your accounts whether they be sole trader, partnership or limited company accounts. I can also help with tax returns; corporation tax

returns based on the company accounts or self assessment returns for the individual. My aim is to explain your accounts and tax return into language that you can understand and not accountancy jargon!

Mid-Year Business Health Check

We're already halfway through the year – but when was the last time you took a step back and reviewed how your business is performing?

A quick mid-year check can help you identify opportunities, spot potential issues early, and make informed decisions for the months ahead.

Ask yourself:

✅ Are sales on target?
✅ Are expenses increasing?
✅ Have you reviewed your pricing?
✅ Are you putting money aside for tax?

Taking the time to review these key areas now can help improve profitability, strengthen cash flow, and avoid unwelcome surprises later in the year.

How many of these boxes can you tick?

If you'd like support reviewing your figures or planning for the rest of the year, we're here to help.

Companies House has announced further details of the upcoming accounts filing changes, which will take effect from 1 April 2028.

One change we're particularly pleased to see is that while micro entities and small companies will be required to file Profit & Loss accounts with Companies House, they will have the option to keep this information off the public register.

There are several other changes on the way, including mandatory digital filing and the removal of abridged accounts. We'll be keeping a close eye on developments and will keep our clients updated as more guidance becomes available.

📢 Changes to accounts filings will come into effect on 1 April 2028.

An overview of what’s changing from 1 April 2028:

- all companies must file accounts digitally via software (iXBRL format)
- small companies and micro entities will need to file profit and loss accounts, but can opt-out of this being displayed on the public register – we’ll share details of the opt-out route in due course
- companies will no longer be able to file abridged accounts
- smaller technical changes, including updates to audit exemptions and accounting reference periods

We're contacting all registered email addresses between 16 and 18 June 2026 with further information about the changes.

💰 Profit and cash are not the same thing.

One of the most common questions we hear from business owners is:

"If my business is making a profit, why does it feel like there's never enough money in the bank?"

The answer is that profit and cash measure two very different things.

✔️ You can show a healthy profit while customers still owe you money.
✔️ Cash can be tied up in stock, equipment or unpaid invoices.
✔️ Tax bills can arrive long after the income was earned.
✔️ Growing businesses often experience cash flow pressure even when sales are increasing.

That's why it's important to look beyond your profit figure and regularly review your cash position too.

A simple cash flow forecast can help you:
📊 Plan ahead for quieter periods
📊 Prepare for tax payments
📊 Manage stock levels
📊 Stay on top of customer payments
📊 Make confident business decisions

Do you really need an accountant?

Many business owners start out managing everything themselves – bookkeeping, invoices, expenses, payroll, VAT returns and tax deadlines.

But as your business grows, so does the paperwork.

An accountant isn't just there to submit accounts. A good accountant can help you:

✅ Stay compliant with HMRC requirements
✅ Avoid costly mistakes and penalties
✅ Save time on bookkeeping and administration
✅ Understand your business numbers
✅ Improve cash flow and profitability
✅ Plan ahead for tax liabilities
✅ Focus on growing your business

The real question isn't whether you can do it yourself – it's whether your time is best spent doing it.

If you're spending evenings and weekends catching up on paperwork, it may be time to get support.

At P&L Accountancy, we help business owners take the stress out of their finances so they can focus on what they do best.

🚗 Great news for business owners!

HMRC's approved mileage rate has increased to 55p per mile, backdated to 6 April 2026.

For sole traders and company directors using their own vehicle for business journeys, this means a higher tax-deductible mileage claim. Up to 10,000 business miles can now generate £5,500 of tax-free mileage reimbursements, allowing more money to be withdrawn from the business tax efficiently.

However, there is another side to the change.

Businesses with employees who are reimbursed for business mileage may see an increase in costs if they decide to increase their mileage rates in line with the new HMRC approved amount.

In this carousel we explain:

✔ Who can claim mileage allowance relief
✔ What the increase means for business owners
✔ Whether employers must pay 55p per mile
✔ The tax implications of paying more than 55p per mile
✔ How employees can claim tax relief if they are paid less than the approved rate

Every business is different, and the right mileage policy will depend on your circumstances, cash flow and workforce.
