P&L Accountancy & Bookkeeping Limited

P&L Accountancy & Bookkeeping Limited I offer accountancy services to all types of businesses, small and large. Please contact me for a free, no obligation initial meeting.

I can help you with your bookkeeping through to preparing our accounts and filing your personal tax return. I can take your accounting records in whatever format you have (excel spreadsheets, computer accounting package, even a carrier bag of receipts!) and prepare your accounts whether they be sole trader, partnership or limited company accounts. I can also help with tax returns; corporation tax

returns based on the company accounts or self assessment returns for the individual. My aim is to explain your accounts and tax return into language that you can understand and not accountancy jargon!

September always feels like a fresh start!

As much as I love spending time with my family over the summer, there’s something quite nice about September arriving, the kids going back to school and getting back into a routine again!

You may have noticed I’ve been a little quieter on social media over the summer… but, as any working parent knows, the school holidays are a constant juggling act!

This summer has involved taxiing my daughter backwards and forwards to gymnastics training, dropping my son off at fishing lakes, spending nearly two weeks enjoying the sunshine in Kos, a weekend at Truck Festival … all while still working and keeping on top of those all-important client deadlines!

And I’m sure I can’t be the only self-employed parent who packs their laptop alongside the sun cream and ends up answering emails from a sun lounger!

I wouldn’t change the flexibility of running my own business — it means I can be there for my family and enjoy these moments with them — but it definitely doesn’t always mean switching off completely!

So, after a lovely (and very busy!) summer, I’m looking forward to getting back into the September routine, being a little more present on here again and sharing plenty of useful accounting and tax tips over the coming months.

Here are a few photos of what we’ve been up to over the summer

Anyone else secretly quite pleased to see the return of the school routine?

🐾 Happy National Dog Day! 🐾

Meet Benji – the very important (and very fluffy!) mascot here at P&L Accountancy & Bookkeeping.

Benji takes his role very seriously. He’s always ready to greet clients when they visit the office, provide a bit of moral support during a busy day… and, as you can see, he also likes to check our work from time to time!

We’re not entirely sure about his accounting qualifications, but he certainly keeps a close eye on things!

Happy national Dog Day to all the other office dogs, home-working companions and four-legged members of the family.

We’d love to see yours – share a photo in the comments!

☀️ Can you mix business with pleasure on holiday… and claim some of the costs? ✈️🌴

With summer holidays in full swing, you might be wondering whether any of your holiday expenses can legitimately be put through the business.

Seven days relaxing by the pool? Sadly, that’s a personal expense!

But what if you arrange a genuine business meeting while you’re away? Some of the costs relating specifically to the business element of your trip could potentially be allowable.

And if you spend a couple of hours catching up on work by the pool? If you have to pay for Wi-Fi specifically to carry out your business activities, that cost may potentially be claimable too.

The important point is that simply doing a little work while you’re on holiday doesn’t suddenly make the holiday itself a business expense. Any costs claimed need to relate to a genuine business purpose, and the rules can depend on the circumstances.

Not sure what you can and can’t claim? Drop us a message – we’re always happy to help

What's the best piece of business advice you've ever been given?

There are some pieces of advice that stay with you throughout your business journey.

For me, it was this:

"Start with decent software and don't just choose the cheapest option."

Looking back, it was advice that has saved countless hours and made running the business so much easier. Good software is an investment, not just another expense, and choosing the right system from the beginning can make a real difference as your business grows.

Every business owner picks up valuable lessons along the way, often from other business owners who have been there before.

So, what's the best business advice you've ever received?

Share it in the comments – you never know who it might help.

💍 It’s wedding season!

But did you know that saying “I do” could also come with a little tax saving?

If you’re married or in a civil partnership, you may be able to claim Marriage Allowance, which lets one partner transfer part of their Personal Allowance to the other.

If you’re eligible, it could reduce your tax bill by up to £252 a year — and you may even be able to backdate your claim for previous tax years.

So, amongst the confetti, cake and celebrations, it might be worth checking whether Marriage Allowance could save you some money too!

Not sure if you qualify? Get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.

Let's make tax return season do a little more good!

For every client who sends us all of their 2025/26 tax return information by 31st August 2026, we'll donate £10 to charity.

Submitting your information early helps us spread our workload, gives us plenty of time to prepare your return, and means together we can support a worthwhile cause.

The only question is... which charity should we choose?

We'd love to support a local charity, so we're looking for your suggestions!

Tag your favourite local charity or leave their name in the comments and tell us why they're deserving.

Thank you for helping us make a positive difference while getting your tax return sorted.

With Cycle to Work Day here, it's the perfect opportunity to think about whether the Cycle to Work Scheme could work for you or your business.

For employees, the scheme can make cycling more affordable through salary sacrifice, helping you spread the cost of a bike and eligible equipment while benefiting from Income Tax and National Insurance savings.

For employers, it's a fantastic way to promote employee wellbeing, encourage greener travel and, in many cases, reduce Employer's National Insurance costs too.

Whether you're looking to get more active or considering introducing a new employee benefit, the Cycle to Work Scheme is well worth exploring.

Swipe through to find out how it works and the benefits for both employees and employers.

If you're a business owner and would like advice on setting up a salary sacrifice scheme or understanding the tax implications, we'd be happy to help.

Starting with a new accountant is much easier than many people think.

One of the questions we're asked most often is, "What's involved in switching?"

The good news is that we take care of most of the process for you.

Once we've had a free, no-obligation meeting and you've decided we're the right fit, we'll ask you for some ID documents to complete our anti-money laundering checks. After that, we'll contact your previous accountant to request professional clearance and obtain the information we need, such as your latest accounts, tax returns and filing information.

From there, we'll get you set up on our secure online portal and you're ready to go.

Changing accountants doesn't have to be stressful – we'll guide you through every step and make the transition as smooth as possible.

If you've been thinking about changing accountants but weren't sure where to start, we'd love to have a chat.

Reminder – Self Assessment Payment on Account due tomorrow!

If you're required to make Payments on Account, your second payment for the 2025/26 tax year is due by 31 July 2026.

Don't forget to make your payment on time to help avoid interest and potential late payment charges from HMRC.

Not sure if this applies to you? Payments on Account are advance payments towards your next Self Assessment tax bill and don't apply to everyone.

If you're unsure how much you need to pay or whether you're required to make a payment, we're happy to help.
