P&L Accountancy & Bookkeeping Limited

P&L Accountancy & Bookkeeping Limited I offer accountancy services to all types of businesses, small and large. Please contact me for a free, no obligation initial meeting.

I can help you with your bookkeeping through to preparing our accounts and filing your personal tax return. I can take your accounting records in whatever format you have (excel spreadsheets, computer accounting package, even a carrier bag of receipts!) and prepare your accounts whether they be sole trader, partnership or limited company accounts. I can also help with tax returns; corporation tax

returns based on the company accounts or self assessment returns for the individual. My aim is to explain your accounts and tax return into language that you can understand and not accountancy jargon!

Do you really need an accountant?

Many business owners start out managing everything themselves – bookkeeping, invoices, expenses, payroll, VAT returns and tax deadlines.

But as your business grows, so does the paperwork.

An accountant isn't just there to submit accounts. A good accountant can help you:

✅ Stay compliant with HMRC requirements
✅ Avoid costly mistakes and penalties
✅ Save time on bookkeeping and administration
✅ Understand your business numbers
✅ Improve cash flow and profitability
✅ Plan ahead for tax liabilities
✅ Focus on growing your business

The real question isn't whether you can do it yourself – it's whether your time is best spent doing it.

If you're spending evenings and weekends catching up on paperwork, it may be time to get support.

At P&L Accountancy, we help business owners take the stress out of their finances so they can focus on what they do best.

🚗 Great news for business owners!

HMRC's approved mileage rate has increased to 55p per mile, backdated to 6 April 2026.

For sole traders and company directors using their own vehicle for business journeys, this means a higher tax-deductible mileage claim. Up to 10,000 business miles can now generate £5,500 of tax-free mileage reimbursements, allowing more money to be withdrawn from the business tax efficiently.

However, there is another side to the change.

Businesses with employees who are reimbursed for business mileage may see an increase in costs if they decide to increase their mileage rates in line with the new HMRC approved amount.

In this carousel we explain:

✔ Who can claim mileage allowance relief
✔ What the increase means for business owners
✔ Whether employers must pay 55p per mile
✔ The tax implications of paying more than 55p per mile
✔ How employees can claim tax relief if they are paid less than the approved rate

Every business is different, and the right mileage policy will depend on your circumstances, cash flow and workforce.

That brown envelope feeling…

For a lot of business owners, seeing a letter from HMRC instantly brings stress.

“Have I missed something?”
“Do I owe money?”
“Have I done something wrong?”

Running a business already comes with enough pressure without worrying about accounts, bookkeeping, tax returns, deadlines, and paperwork on top of everything else.

That’s where having an accountant can really help.

✔️ Keeping you organised
✔️ Making sure deadlines are met
✔️ Helping you understand what HMRC actually wants
✔️ Dealing with tax issues before they become bigger problems
✔️ Giving you support and advice when you need it

But one of the biggest benefits is peace of mind.

Knowing someone is there to help can clear so much space in your head and take away the constant worry around finances and tax.

Because business owners shouldn’t have to feel stressed every time a brown envelope lands on the doorstep.

Over the weekend I went to Ascot races to celebrate my Dad reaching 40 years in business — an incredible milestone in the construction industry.
It made me realise that we both took the leap into business ownership at a similar age… Dad at 29, and me at 32.
I can only hope I’m still trading in 40 years’ time too. It’s strange to think how much the industry will change between now and then, but I hope the values that successful businesses are built on — hard work, resilience, loyalty, and good people — never change.

A very proud weekend ❤️

Good records don’t just tick a box — they protect your business.
Keeping your books up to date might feel like a small task, but it makes a big difference when it comes to tax, cashflow, and avoiding unnecessary stress.
When your records are clear and current:
• You know exactly where you stand
• Deadlines don’t creep up on you
• You avoid costly mistakes
• And you can make confident decisions
It’s one of the simplest habits to get right — and one of the most valuable.
If your bookkeeping has slipped down the priority list, now’s a good time to get back on track.

Is your bookkeeping quietly costing you money?

It’s often the small things that get overlooked… but over time, they can turn into bigger (and more expensive) problems.

Here are a few warning signs to keep an eye on:

• You don’t fully trust your numbers
• Deadlines catch you off guard
• Invoicing is slipping behind
• You’re stuck doing admin in your evenings or weekends

Sound familiar?

Good bookkeeping should give you clarity, keep you organised, and free up your time — not add to your stress.

The right systems in place make all the difference, helping you stay on top of your finances and make confident decisions for your business.

If things feel a bit out of control, it can be sorted.

📩 Send us a message if you’d like to get everything back on track.

Are you actually making money… or just staying busy?

So many business owners set their prices based on guesswork — not on what it really costs to run a business.

But your price needs to cover more than just your time 👇
✔️ Non-billable hours
✔️ Admin
✔️ Holidays & sick days
✔️ Finding new work
✔️ Tax & National Insurance
✔️ Pension contributions
✔️ Unexpected costs

And on top of all that… you still need to make a profit.

Because profit isn’t a bonus — it’s what keeps your business going.

Charging too little might win work today, but it makes things harder tomorrow.

Sustainable businesses are built by people who:
✔️ Know their numbers
✔️ Price properly
✔️ Plan ahead

If you’re not sure whether your pricing is really working, it might be time to take a closer look.

📩 Get in touch if you’d like help reviewing your numbers and building a more profitable, sustainable business.
