Welcome to my page! I hope you'll find something here to interest and/or entertain you. But first, let me tell you a bit about me! Once upon a time, I wanted to be a concert pianist and most of my childhood and teenage years were spent at my piano practicing with that in mind. But it wasn't to be and when I left school I joined Balfour Beatty as a trainee accountant. I've now been qualified for ov
er 30 years. And as an accountant, everything I do starts with "the numbers" which, to put it simply, tell a story. But the numbers are just the starting point, and my "job", is to take those numbers and, in conversation with you, to understand your story so far. Next, I like to understand where you are hoping to go with your life and your business. Only then can we work out a plan of action to get you from where you are to where you want to be. For some people, it's just a question of keeping things as they are, making sure the accounts and tax returns are produced and filed on time. Others have a vision for something bigger and I like nothing better than to help owners of small businesses grow them into bigger businesses, profitably. I do this because I have seen too many friends, colleagues, and other connections set up in business with high expectations only to crash and burn inside 5 years, their dreams, hopes, and aspirations shattered and often with their personal lives wrecked as well. These are good people who set out to do something that they are good at and are passionate about, but that "something" is invariably NOT running a business. So they quickly become overwhelmed, distracted, and eventually disheartened before succumbing to the inevitable. But I believe that a successful business can be built on the back of a few well-defined processes. It's not always fun and it's not always sexy, but it isn't rocket science either. My 'mission' is to support business owners to realize their business dreams, to give them the opportunity to become the best version of themselves that they can be and so to positively impact their lives and the lives of those around them; their partners, spouses, children, other family, and friends. On this page, I intend to share a variety of material relevant to my mission. Some of it will be informative, some of it will be inspirational. Hopefully, and DESPITE the fact that I'm an accountant, some of it might even make you laugh!
