Fantastic day at our Manchester office yesterday with guest speaker Steve Worrall, insightful discussions and plenty to take away.

On a broader note, a significant milestone for UK/US relations as the latest trade deal rolls out, promising lower tariffs on key goods, increased market access, and streamlined digital trade. This means more choice, competitive pricing, and better value for UK consumers.

A win for both sides.

Six degree water is all about mental resilience and resisting the urge to get out early. It’s not unlike investing: stay calm, think long term and don’t bail when it gets uncomfortable.

UK Economy: Challenges & Opportunities ⚖️📈

The UK’s growth forecast has been cut from 2% to 1%, but the Spring Statement offered some positives. Planning reforms were scored well, and disposable income could grow nearly twice as fast as expected. While inflation remains above target, a recession this year still looks unlikely.

📉 Interest rates – The Bank of England is expected to cut rates, but high inflation (especially in services) means they’ll likely move cautiously.
🛡️ Defence boost – A £2.2bn increase in spending, with at least 10% of the MoD’s budget going towards AI, drones, and new tech.
📊 UK stocks – The UK market, with its value-driven, large-cap bias, remains attractive, particularly in volatile conditions.

Globally, uncertainty—especially around US trade policy—continues to weigh on markets. But Germany’s biggest stimulus package in a generation could shift Europe’s economic outlook.

In a world full of surprises, a lack of UK drama might not be a bad thing! What’s your take? 👇

UK economic growth prospects may look anaemic but there were glimmers of positivity in the government’s Spring Statement.
