๐Ÿ“„| DO I NEED TO KEEP RECEIPTS FOR BUSINESS EXPENSES?

Keeping accurate records is an important part of running a business and meeting your tax obligations.

The short answer? Yes.

HMRC requires businesses to keep records that support the income and expenses reported on tax returns. This includes receipts, invoices and other documents relating to business costs.

The good news is that you don't have to keep every paper receipt. HMRC accepts digital copies, including scanned receipts and photographs, provided the information is clear and can be reproduced if required.

As a general rule, self-employed individuals should keep records for at least 5 years after the 31 January filing deadline for the relevant tax year.

Good record keeping can help you:
โœ… Claim allowable expenses
โœ… Prepare tax returns with confidence
โœ… Provide evidence if HMRC requests further information
