MTD for Income Tax — first quarterly submissions done. All filed, all on time.

April felt like a big change for a lot of sole traders and landlords. Four months on, the first quarter is behind us and it was, a steep learning curve for some, a chance to get on top of figures for some, and a "complete waste of time" for others (clients words)!!

The difference wasn't the software. It was the prep: records and expectations set up properly before April, a clear routine for each client, and only a little scrambling in the final week.

If your first quarter didn't go smoothly — or you're in the next wave and want it to — now is the time to sort it, not next July.

I have had a few people asking about me being a chartered accountant and a qualified coach and what is the difference.

The honest answer is, they’re pretty much the same job.

In 25 years of working with business owners, I’ve sat through board meetings, reviewed more P&Ls than I can count, and had countless conversations about cashflow, tax, and strategy.

But the most useful thing I’ve ever done for a client wasn’t any of that. It was listening, and asking the right question at the right moment.

Numbers tell you where you’ve been. A good conversation helps you decide where you’re going.

I still love running Woodbridge Accountants, and I still believe good financial advice matters enormously. But I also know that behind every set of accounts is a person making decisions, managing pressure, and trying to build something that works.

That’s where coaching fits. Not instead of the numbers - alongside them.
