šŸ’¼ Self-Employed? Let’s Talk Expenses You Can Claim! šŸ’ø

As an accountant, I know how important it is to make every penny count, especially when you're self-employed. The good news? You might be able to claim back some of your business expenses and reduce your tax bill. Here's a quick guide to what's typically allowable:

šŸ“‹ What Can You Claim?

Travel Costs: Fuel, public transport, and even accommodation if you’re traveling for work.

Office Supplies: Pens, paper, postage—if it helps you work, it’s likely claimable.

Work Space: If you work from home, you can claim a portion of your rent/mortgage, utility bills, and internet costs.

Professional Fees: Accountant fees (yes, hiring me is deductible!), subscriptions, or memberships related to your industry.

Marketing & Advertising: Flyers, Facebook ads, website hosting—if it promotes your business, it can count.

Equipment & Tools: Computers, machinery, or tools necessary for your trade.

Training Costs: Any courses or training directly related to improving your business skills.

Remember, expenses need to be wholly and exclusively for business use to qualify. Mixing personal and business? You’ll need to figure out the correct proportion to claim.

šŸ’” Need Help? Tax rules can be tricky, but that's where I step in! If you want to ensure you're claiming everything you're entitled to (while staying on HMRC's good side), don’t hesitate to get in touch. Let me handle the numbers, so you can focus on growing your business!

šŸ’¼šŸ“† **Missed the 31 January Tax Deadline? Here’s What to Do Next!** šŸ“†šŸ’¼

If you didn't manage to file your tax return by 31 January, don't panic. It happens to the best of us! Here's a step-by-step guide to getting back on track:

1. **File ASAP**: The sooner you file, the smaller your penalties will be. Aim to submit your return as soon as possible.
2. **Know the Penalties**: You’ll face a Ā£100 late filing penalty. After three months, additional daily penalties of Ā£10 will apply (up to a maximum of Ā£900). After six months, there’s an additional Ā£300 or 5% of the tax due, whichever is higher.
3. **Interest on Late Payments**: HMRC charges interest on any unpaid tax from 1 February until it’s paid. So the quicker you settle, the less interest you’ll accumulate.
4. **Set Up a Payment Plan**: If you’re struggling to pay your tax bill, contact HMRC to discuss setting up a payment plan through their Time to Pay service.
5. **Seek Professional Advice**: We’re here to help! Reach out if you need guidance on filing your return or understanding your options.

Remember, it’s never too late to take action. Let’s get your tax affairs sorted!
