HMRC publish an approved mileage rate, which represents the tax free reimbursement that an employer can make of their employees for business travel made in the employees own vehicle.

The approved mileage rates from tax year 2026 to 2027 have been updated.
For cars and vans the rate is now 55p per mile for the first 10,000 business miles in the tax year with 25p per mile when you exceed 10,000 miles.

There are different rates for motorcycles and bicycles.

The rates take effect from the start of the tax year and not from when the change was announced. This is an important point.

It is so important to keep accurate records of the business miles you travel across the year to support any mileage claims. This could be as simple as making notes in a diary or an excel spreadsheet, or using an app or piece of software designed for that purpose.

If you are unsure of what expenses you can claim in your business, not just mileage, then do get in touch.

Well… this escalated quickly! 🛠️😅
Our refurbishment project has officially gone from “a bit of a refresh” to “a full-scale transformation.” Along the way we’ve uncovered a few surprises in the building that needed fixing which is not quite what we planned, but definitely the right thing to do.

We know the work has caused a bit of disruption (thank you for your patience!), but we’re excited about creating a much better space for our clients and team.

It’s also given us a real reminder of what all small businesses deal with - unexpected challenges, rising costs, and the need to adapt quickly. That’s why we’ve been keen to use local contractors and support fellow small businesses throughout the project.

We can’t wait to show you the finished result 👀
