I had a brilliant day at the SOLLA Later Life Conference at Central Hall Westminster.

We heard from a fantastic and varied line-up of speakers including Tish Hanifan, Steve Webb, Catherine Loveday, Ian Macara, Alex Hall, Joyce Pinfield and Peter Barnett, covering everything from pensions and care to ageing, memory, mental capacity and decision-making.

It was also lovely to finally meet the SOLLA team and to catch up with the care annuity providers Aviva,Just, National Friendly and British Friendly.

There was so much to take away from the day, but one thing really stood out for me:

Later-life financial advice is about so much more than numbers.

It’s about the person sitting in front of you. Their family, their wishes, their worries and what really matters to them. ❤️

That’s one of the reasons I love the work I do, particularly helping clients and their families navigate the sometimes complicated decisions that come with later life and paying for care.

A really worthwhile day with great people — and I even made it home from London! Although I think Paul deserves most of the credit for that. 😂

If I could wave a magic wand and show you your perfect retirement, what would it be?

✈️ More travel?
❤️ More time with family?
🏡 Moving house?
👨‍👩‍👧 Helping the children or grandchildren?
☕ Or simply having the freedom to do what you want, when you want?

We spend 40–50 years working towards retirement, but how much time do we spend actually planning for it?

Financial planning isn’t just about pensions and investments — it’s about making sure your money helps you live the life you want.

So perhaps the question isn’t “Have I saved enough?”

It’s “Have I planned for the future I actually want?” 💭

Today I had the pleasure of hosting a care funding drop-in clinic at Upton Manor Care Home, part of the Hamberley Care Homes group, organised and run with Laura Morgan.

It was a valuable opportunity to meet residents, families and visitors to discuss the financial considerations of planning for later life care.

These conversations can often feel overwhelming, so having the opportunity to answer questions and provide guidance in a relaxed and welcoming environment was incredibly rewarding.

Thank you to Laura and the wonderful team at Upton Manor for their hospitality and support throughout the day. It was great to see such engagement around an important topic that affects so many families.

A fantastic morning spent delivering an in-person training session with over 30 members of the HK Law team.

We had some excellent discussions around the upcoming pension legislation changes and, in particular, the impact these will have on both clients’ financial planning and the way solicitors and advisers work together to deliver the best outcomes.

With significant changes on the horizon, it’s more important than ever that legal and financial professionals collaborate to ensure clients receive joined-up, informed advice.
