On the train, travelling back from London after meeting with a relatively new client of mine.
A really lovely couple running a great business which has become extremely successful in a short time and as is common, has had to ‘wing it’ with regards to accounts and processes.
This is where I love to be able to get involved without the restrictions of a specific job title. Yes, we are doing their bookkeeping but in addition I am working with them to understand their business, review current processes and set up new, more automated and efficient ones.
Alongside that, they need to understand their business and being spoken to with financial jargon and presenting generic reporting and expecting that to make perfect sense to them and to enable them to make decisions, not only makes them feel patronised and incompetent but also does not help them understand or feel in control.
So I work with them, understand how they see their business and tailor the reporting to pull in all the correct financials but presented in the way they know their business.
When someone starts a business doing what they are skilled at, it doesn’t automatically mean they understand and can read a balance sheet or P&L.
Running my own business gives me the freedom to take the time to help them understand by understanding them!

The first network event, organised by WEJ Financial Management Ltd, this morning, hosted by 1086Winebar Botley Mills Country Store.
Everyone found it very helpful and all gained some useful connections.
Thank you to all who attended.
We will look to host the next one in October and will open it up to the wider SME business world within the area.

We are currently recruiting after securing an additional contract.

Based in Botley but with hybrid working, we require a FULL TIME Finance Assistant for immediate start.

Experience is required, as is good working knowledge of Xero.

Understanding of the construction industry and the requirements by HMRC would be an advantage as would payroll experience.

Are you, or do you know of someone who has finance experience and is looking for part time employment?
WEJ Financial Management Limited are looking to recruit for a part time, varied position which would initially be 1-1 1/2 days a week but increasing to around 20 hours a week within a few months.
You will need to be a self starter, accurate and organised with a good understanding of purchase ledger, sales ledger and accounts to TB.
This is an unusual and varied role which requires someone who is happy to cover a number of different tasks and to help this relatively new business grow with an excellent reputation for service.
