Since 1995 Sutton McGrath Hartley have been a Chartered Accountancy firm based in Sheffield and Chesterfield. ditional services being offered within the group, it has become clear that for the clients of each office to benefit, everything should be tied together with a new SMH branding. In 2022, the SMH Group was born, with all the individual offices having their original names prefixed with ‘SMH’. The change allows us to give each office access to the wider group’s services, whilst keeping the local knowledge and expertise in each area. The rebrand was the vision of James Hartley in a bid to make sure there is a clear path and structure for existing and new group entities. The mission of the newly formed SMH Group is to ‘ensure no financial stone is left unturned’ to enable clients to access all their financial requirements within one group of companies.

We’re looking for a Semi Senior Accountant to join our team in Buxton.

This is a great opportunity to develop your career in an expanding practice, working alongside experienced accountants and other professionals while supporting a varied portfolio of clients.

You’ll be involved in accounts preparation, bookkeeping, VAT returns, personal tax returns, management accounts and wider accountancy support, with the potential to attend client meetings and support apprentices as you progress.

We’re looking for someone with at least 2 to 3 years’ experience in an accountancy practice environment, strong attention to detail and a proactive approach.

The role includes full study support, a salary of up to £30,000, 33 days’ holiday including bank holidays, and a range of additional benefits.

Throughout June, SMH Group are hosting their first-ever Will Month in aid of Ashgate Hospice, and we're incredibly grateful for their support. 💜

Breaking news: HMRC has updated its interim guidance on mandatory payrolling of Benefits in Kind.

The change will now be phased in from April 2027, rather than applying to all reportable BiKs and expenses at once.

Under Phase 1, mandatory payrolling will only apply to:

✅ Company cars and fuel
✅ Vans and van fuel
✅ Private medical benefits

All other BiKs will continue to be reported on P11D forms or through voluntary payrolling for now.

Most remaining benefits are expected to become mandatory from April 2028, with loans and accommodation benefits following at a later date.
