15 million people in the UK are under-saving for retirement.

That’s not a prediction, it’s the finding from the government’s own Pensions Commission, published this week.

Their interim report highlights the groups most at risk: low and middle earners, the self-employed (where just 1 in 25 is saving anything), women, carers, and those in the gig economy.

Perhaps most striking: the minimum auto-enrolment contribution has quietly become the norm, not the floor it was designed to be.

Final recommendations won’t come until 2027. But the conversation needs to happen now.

A lot of people think financial confidence comes from having everything perfectly organised.

In reality, it often starts much smaller than that.

Sometimes confidence comes from simply understanding:

• where things are
• what matters most
• what still feels uncertain

You don’t need every answer immediately.

Clarity tends to build gradually, often through better conversations and more organised thinking.

Financial wellbeing is rarely about perfection.
More often, it’s about understanding your own situation more clearly.

The decision nobody prepares you for. 👇

Annuity vs drawdown vs a blend, most people facing retirement have never had this properly explained to them.

And the reason so many people freeze isn’t because it’s too complicated.

It’s because they’ve never been asked the right questions.

↓ Three worth sitting with:

1. How much certainty do you need and is that worth more to you than flexibility?
2. Do you have other income that already covers the basics?
3. How do you feel about staying invested once you stop working?

Your answers change everything.

Save this if retirement is on your radar. And drop a question in the comments, I’ll do my best to point you in the right direction.

Everyone wants a number that tells them they’ll be okay in retirement.

The problem is, that number doesn’t exist.

Retirement readiness isn’t just about the size of a pension pot. It’s about four things that are completely personal to you:

- What will your life actually cost in retirement?

- What’s your state pension entitlement? (Free to check on Gov.UK)

- When do you want to stop working? And how flexible are you on that?

- How much flexibility do you have with the money itself?

When you understand those four things, the number starts to make sense.

What questions would you add? Put them in the comments.

Five questions worth asking yourself if you’re in your 50s 👇

Most people never do and it’s not their fault.

Nobody tells you where to start.

This one’s for anyone who’s wondered whether they’re on track but hasn’t quite known what to look at first.

The job of a financial adviser is changing fast.

And I think the future version of it is actually better.

Less process. More conversation. Less product knowledge. More genuine understanding of what people are trying to do with their lives.

A short reflection on where I think the profession is heading and why I find that encouraging rather than unsettling.

💰 £100,000 — found in a routine review meeting.

I spotted a policy number that didn’t match what we had on record for a client.

It turned out to be a pension they’d completely forgotten about.

Worth £100,000.

No drama. Just someone looking carefully at the detail.

When did someone last do that for you?

So many people wait until they earn more, save more, or feel “ready” before starting to plan financially.

But the truth is, there’s never a perfect time.
Starting now, even with small steps, gives you clarity, confidence, and options later on.

It’s not about perfection, it’s about progress.

Your future self will thank you for starting today.

Most people have a pension… but couldn’t explain what it actually is. 🤷

A pension is simply a savings pot for your future self with a tax boost from the government built in.

Understanding what you’ve got is the first step to making the most of it.

Many financial decisions aren’t about complexity…they’re about awareness and timing.

Small things, left unchecked, can have a bigger impact over time.
