Match report from Wednesday...
Edgehill met Middlesbrough based outfit North Ormesby on Wednesday night at the North Riding County Football Association headquarters - Stokesley. Both teams sitting top of their leagues with one eye on promotion. However tonight, the Saturday challenge cup final was up for grabs.
A very good crowd gathered to watch the final with 80% backing Ormesby and a small handful making the trip from Scarborough to back the lads. The support was very much appreciated and nice to see some familiar faces in the crowd.
1st half
It was Ormesby who had the first chance of the game, 10 minutes in, Gaz Thomas winning the header and the ball fell to nicely to an Ormesby midfielder who played his striker through on goal, the bobbly pitch made it awkward and Lloyd Henderson did enough for the striker to hit his shot well wide.
20 minutes and we had a great chance, left back Joe Danby found himself on the right wing and he pulled a cross back to Joe Gallagher who missed from close range. The Ormesby keeper made a great double save.
At this point we were controlling the game and having a few chances mainly from long range. Billy Logan having a couple of shots and Josh Greening coming close.
36 minutes and 1-0 Edgehill. Joe Danby was taking corners and ignoring the bench to tell a right footer to take it he swung a pinpoint cross in. The elegant center half Ted Edwards rose highest to power his header home. Edwards who's played for manager Alec Coulson since under 7s had an excellent game all night.
44 minutes 2-0, corner from the opposite side, again Danby swung it in with whip and the powerful forward Joe Gallagher nodded home. HALF TIME
2nd half
50 minutes, the Ormesby winger who looked their best player got himself sent off. With a kick which connected with Gallagher the ref had no option but to show him red.
We controlled the game without really testing the Ormesby keeper Ryan Link hitting the post from a header was the nearest we came.
70 minutes, the closest Ormesby came to scoring. A free kick on the edge of the box was struck well but took a big deflection, keeper Martin Cappleman changed direction and made a full length dive to deny the goal.
Last 10 minutes North Ormesby gave a big push, several corners in quick succession but we delt with it and claimed the victory.
Man of Match - Lloyd Henderson. Never put a foot wrong all night, won a lot of headers and sniffed out any danger.
3 wins on the trot.
