Mileage Update!

There have been changes to mileage rates in recent weeks. Previously, you could claim 45p per mile, which is intended to cover fuel, servicing, insurance, and other vehicle running costs.

From April 2026, this has increased to 55p per mile.

Make sure you update your records and mileage calculations so you're claiming the full amount you're entitled to. Every mile adds up, and you don't want to miss out on money that could be claimed back.

Self-employed and claiming mileage?

If you use your personal vehicle for business trips, the mileage rate is a simple and effective way to claim, but it needs to be used correctly.

The mileage rate is designed to cover your vehicle running costs, including fuel, repairs, insurance, and wear & tear.

Do’s and Don’ts:
✔️ A clear record of your business journeys (dates, purpose, and miles travelled)
✔️ Details of any additional costs like parking, tolls charges
❌Claim Fuel, Servicing & repairs, Insurance etc, in addition to mileage
❌ Don’t overclaim: rates are 45p per mile (first 10,000 miles) and 25p thereafter

Keeping accurate records is key to staying compliant.

Not sure what to track or what your accountant needs?

Get in touch, I’m happy to help.

Wow! How has it been over a year since I took the leap and started my own business!?

That initial drive and passion have carried me through all the steps into building my business. Fast forward to today, and everything I do is centred around my clients, which is exactly what I love most about what I do.

I’m so grateful to my family, friends, and of course my amazing clients for all the support along the way – thank you.

Pension Prompt 💡

If you’re employed and eligible for a pension, you’re likely already enrolled in a workplace scheme. There are minimum contribution levels in place…your employer contributes at least 3%, and you typically contribute 5%. On top of that, you receive tax relief from the government, giving your retirement savings an extra boost.

If you’re self-employed then it’s all down to you. It’s worth looking into or reviewing your current circumstances to ensure you are receiving all the benefits of paying into a personal pension.

It’s easy to focus on the present, but the years pass quickly and soon enough you will be relying your pension pot.

I’m still here...

Apologies, I’ve been a bit quiet on here lately! New tax year means tying up 2025-2026 and setting up clients for the new 2026-2027 tax year, where HMRC have introduced Making Tax Digital (MTD) for sole traders with turnover over £50k! These new rules in place has added a little extra work load 😅😅

So it's just a quick post wishing you a lovely Friday (and weekend) 😊

📢 New Tax Year, Fresh Start!

The new tax year is here, which means your Self Assessment tax return for 6 April 2025 – 5 April 2026 will need to be submitted to HMRC by 31 January 2027.

Now’s the perfect time to get organised—gather all your documents early and tick this task off your to-do list well ahead of the deadline ✔️

Don’t forget…
.. clocks go forward this weekend ⏰

I don’t know about you, but this always feels like a real turning point in the year, with longer evenings, (hopefully) more sunshine, and a fresh boost of motivation.

Perfect timing too, with the new tax year just around the corner and MTD for Income Tax kicking in in just over a week. Take a bit of time to get organised and make the most of those brighter days ahead!🌞

Happy Friday!

If you have…congratulations!

With such a long list of who to contact, us accountants are not usually high up on that list. It might seem like a small thing, but having your up-to-date details means we can keep everything accurate, stay compliant, and make sure HMRC correspondence actually reaches you.

It only takes a minute to update, and it can save a lot of stress down the line 😊

📚✨ Happy World Book Day! ✨📚

My favourite “book” while I’m working isn’t on a shelf — it’s my daily planner! 🗓️

I LOVE mapping out the week ahead so I know exactly what’s coming up and what needs to be done. It keeps me organised, focused, and on track. And let’s be honest… there’s nothing more satisfying than ticking off a task once it’s completed ✔️

Outside of work, I love switching off with a gripping crime thriller — the kind you can’t put down because of all the twists and turns! 🔍📖

But the best stories aren’t always found in books. We’re all writing our own story every day, and being part of helping people move forward to their next business chapter is what makes what I do so rewarding. ✨
