We are constantly on the look our for the latest financial Scam's but this one is worryingly believable!
Using the name and reputation of a well know investment firm Fidelity International, and providing realistic and well put together literature, this Scam offers investment returns of between 2.75% and 5.75% through fixed rate ISA Investment Bonds. These are significantly higher rates than currently expected to be available for such a product although there are comparable alternatives so they haven't gone into the realms of "if it sounds too good to be true". Designed to cash-in on the exceptionally low ISA rates currently being offered by banks and building societies this shows a level of sophistication not previously seen.
The brochure contains multiple inaccuracies but it would take a trained eye to spot these. There are various typographical errors throughout, and the contact information contained does not relate to Fidelity International, again the eagle eyed might spot the typo's but not necessarily the difference in contact details.
The document also states that the funds would be taken over the phone - a regular method to subvert funds via a scam.
This, along with the ease of social media "hit and run" advertising shows a worrying trend which even the most financially savvy may well fall victim to!
The thing is, this can easily be avoided simply by speaking to a properly qualified Independent Financial Adviser (and no, your bank generally doesn't have independent advisers - they can ONLY advise on products offered by THEIR bank). The truth is that, even without the risk of sophisticated scams, the likelihood for most of us to be able to successfully select an investment, pension or ISA that is properly suitable to our circumstances is very slim. We offer completely free initial advice whether you have a particular product in mind or not and we will ALWAYS be happy to review a product you've found or been offered directly to give you complete peace of mind that you aren't being scammed so please just get in touch if you are thinking of investing and we'll give you proper advice!
