It’s Friday the 13th, a day often associated with bad luck.

But after years of working with business owners, I’ve noticed something.

Success in business rarely comes down to luck.
It comes down to beliefs.

“I’m not good with numbers.”
“If I earn more, I’ll just lose it in tax.”
“I’ll deal with the finances later.”

These are common beliefs I hear and they quietly shape business decisions.

The truth is, understanding your numbers doesn’t have to be complicated.

With the right systems and clarity, your finances can become one of the strongest foundations in your business.

Three years ago, there were days I relied on crutches to walk.
Climbing a single flight of stairs could leave me exhausted.
I made a choice for change and slowly, steadily, I found my strength again.

This year, for my birthday, I’m marking that journey by attempting to deadlift 100kg, not just as a personal achievement, but as a way to give back.

I’m fundraising for supporting individuals and families facing food insecurity in our community.

💛 had a power hour recently with someone I last worked with almost 20 years ago. We hadn’t kept in touch, no LinkedIn messages, no catch-ups — just the memory of a time we crossed paths in our early careers.

And yet, two decades later, she booked time with me for advice on her business.

That one message… it brought me so much unexpected joy.
It made me feel quietly proud, and deeply humbled.
We slipped straight back into ease — she even said, that it felt so easy rather than speaking to other accountants. Moments like this remind me why I do what I do. It’s not just about numbers. It’s about people. And the impact we have, even when we don’t realise it.
