Childminders! Are you searching for answers about claiming expenses?

We have published new guidance on how all childminders can still claim for:
• household items and furniture
• household costs
• food and drink

If you earn £50,000 or more, you will use Making Tax Digital for Income Tax from 6 April 2026 and record and claim business costs digitally. Otherwise you can still use the alternative rules for childminders if you choose, including the 10% flat estimate for wear and tear on household items and furniture.

Celebrating 1 Year of Hawkins Accounting! 🎉

Today marks one year since I took the leap and launched my accountancy business, and what a whirlwind it’s been!

To my incredible clients – thank you for trusting me with your accounting and tax needs. It’s been a pleasure building such great relationships with you all. Supporting your businesses as you’ve supported mine has been truly rewarding!

I also want to thank all the amazing connections I’ve made along the way – your support, advice, and encouragement have been invaluable and have made this journey all the more special.

Over the past year, I’ve:
🎨 Had far too much fun creating random pictures with AI (it’s dangerously addictive).
📌 Learned that I’d be lost without my trusty post-it notes.
🐾 Heard my dog Barney snore more than I thought physically possible while I worked away at my desk.

But honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. This journey has been challenging, rewarding, and downright fun, and I’m enjoying every minute of it.
