✈️ A well-deserved break for some of our team!

Adam, Abbie, and their three beautiful children are heading off for some much-needed quality family time. 🧒 👶

As many of you know, we are a small, family-run practice here in Hertfordshire. 👩‍❤️‍👨

With Abbie away from the payroll desk and Adam away from his calculator, our usual two-man accounts band is running at half capacity this week! 🥹

David is still here holding down the fort, but things might take just a little longer than usual to process. 🏠

What you need to know:

Response times: Might be a bit slower than normal. ☎️

Urgent accounts queries: Please email [email protected].

Urgent payroll queries: Please contact Sami on your usual contact details. 📞

Replies: David will get back to you as soon as he possibly can. 📧

We want to wish Adam, Abbie, and the kids the most amazing holiday together! ☀️

Thank you all so much for your patience and understanding while we give them some time to unplug. 🔌

What have you all been doing today?

Something fun in the sun we hope!

We’ve had the Accountancy practice boys out hosting a party for David Froggett son Eddie today.

Massive huge thank you to John Froggett Adam Froggett and G for all their help today! Absolutely couldn’t have done it without you.

John had fun reffing the games , Adam took the boys on a cross bar challenge and David sorted the whole day out.

We had a huge order of pizzas delivered hot and fresh by Flintshack , went down amazing ! Thank you for sorting us out today, would highly recommend.

Now… the biggest game of them all is yet to come, I wonder what that game might be , can anyone guess what we will be doing tonight ?

I’ll give you a hint … ⚽️ 💥 🏆 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🇫🇷 let’s hope so! 🤞

Have a great weekend all.

🚗 Big News for Drivers: UK Mileage Allowance Increases to 55p! 🚗

For the first time since 2011, the government has officially increased the tax-free Approved Mileage Allowance Payment (AMAP) rate for cars and vans from 45p to 55p per mile. 💰

This 10p increase is backdated to 6 April 2026 for the entire 2026/27 tax year! 📅

Here is what it means for you: 🙋‍♀️

Employees: Your employer can now pay you up to 55p per mile tax-free. 🚘

If they still pay the old 45p rate, you can claim the 10p difference back as tax relief from HMRC. 💵

Business Owners & Sole Traders: 👩‍💼

If you use simplified expenses, you can now deduct more from your profits, lowering your tax bill! 👨‍💼

Note: The rate applies to the first 10,000 business miles. 🚙

The rate for mileage over 10,000 remains at 25p.

As a family-run practice, we know how much every mile counts for your family budget or small business. 👩 👨

We are already helping our clients navigate this backdated change to maximise their claims.

Looking to calculate your top-up or update your payroll? 💸

Drop us a message or give the office a call—we’re here to help! 🙏

Myth VS Fact 🙋‍♀️ let’s debunk some this afternoon 😏

💡 Myth vs. Fact: Clothing Expenses

❌ Myth: I can claim my work wardrobe as a business expense because I only wear these clothes for business meetings.

✅ Fact: HMRC denies tax relief for everyday clothing, even if you only wear it for work. To qualify, clothing must be a uniform, protective gear, or a costume. If the clothes could reasonably form part of an everyday wardrobe, they are not tax-deductible

💡 Myth vs. Fact: Side Hustles

❌ Myth: I started a small side business selling crafts online, but I don't need to declare it because I already pay tax on my main day job.

✅ Fact: Your main job and side hustle are separate. If your total gross trading income from all side hustles goes over £1,000 in a tax year, you must register for Self Assessment and declare it, regardless of your employment status.

💡 Myth vs. Fact: Limited Company Cash

❌ Myth: The money my limited company makes belongs to me, so I can transfer profit directly to my personal account whenever I want.

✅ Fact: A limited company is a separate legal entity. The company owns the money. To take funds out legally, you must pay yourself via a structured salary (PAYE), official dividend declarations, or a formal director's loan.

Hey all , happy Saturday ☀️

The sun is out yet again! We could get used to this. 🌞

As we roll into April let’s talk tax returns … yes already 🤣

🙋‍♀️ We do get some interesting questions about what can be claimed and what can’t , trust us, it’s always worth talking to us BEFORE you buy it , just because Dave down the social club said his mates dog claimed it and his dogs auntie told him that was okay, does not mean it is actually okay …

I thought I’d do some research on bizarre things people have actually tried to claim for , see below for my favourites 😉

🐶 Pets and Animals

Pet food for a "guard dog": A taxpayer attempted to claim food for their Shih Tzu, arguing it was a security dog.

🐟 Fish food: Someone claimed the cost of feeding their pet fish, arguing they were "office pets" that improved morale.

👗 Wardrobe and Appearance

🧑‍🦲 Wig for a bald man: An employee tried to claim a wig to feel more confident in client meetings.

🐑 Woolly un**es: One very cold blooded human asked for £40 worth of woolly underwear to be shaved off their tax bill.

💵 Lifestyle and Entertainment

🧙 A "Witch" Curse: A taxpayer tried to claim expenses, arguing their mother-in-law was a witch who put a curse on them.

🏖️ Holiday Expenses: Someone tried to claim a caravan rental for the Easter weekend because they couldn't find a post box in Wales to mail a return.

🍱 Food and Drink
Sausage and Chips: A claim for £4.50 for a daily sausage and chips meal for 250 days….. that’s a lot of sausage and chips 🍟

And now save the best for last - apparently - 😂

🍪 Gingerbread Men: In the UK, gingerbread men with chocolate eyes are VAT-free, but those with a chocolate belt (covering more than 1% of the surface) are taxed as a luxury

So…

Moral of the story is , please ask us first , we are here to make your life as tax efficient as possible ! if we haven’t seen the request before we will find you the RIGHT answer, let’s trust the process and not Dave’s dogs aunties cousin please 🙂

Have a great weekend all ☀️

Below is David’s “guard dog” Teddy , not sure he would get away with that one if he tried 😭🤣
