An asset is something valuable that a person or organisation owns or has a right to receive.

Examples include money in a bank account, a home, investments, a car, or money someone owes you. In an estate, assets are the things the executor gathers and deals with under the will and the law.

A testator is the person who makes a will to say what should happen to their property and possessions after they die.

For example, if someone writes a will leaving their home to one child and their savings to another, that person is the testator. The people or organisations named to receive something are the beneficiaries.
