Well… what a week 😅

An extremely busy one with lots of client meetings, plenty of miles travelled and lots of great conversations with clients along the way.

It was also really nice to spend some time yesterday evening catching up with my friends, always good to have a laugh and put the world to rights.

Of course, there’s also been the small distraction of the Spygate situation in between 😩 ⚽️ Safe to say, I thought we’d all be Wembley-bound tomorrow… but sadly not 💔

Now though, I’m really looking forward to a hot, sunny bank holiday weekend with the kids, making the most of some family time and a BBQ. Apparently it starts with ice lollies after school. 😁

Whatever you’re up to this bank holiday weekend, I hope you get chance to switch off for a bit and enjoy it.

Have a great one everyone ☀️

Old pensions

People don’t intentionally lose track of pensions.

👉 Life just gets busy.

👉 You change jobs.

👉 Letters stop arriving.

👉 Providers rebrand.

👉 Passwords disappear.

And suddenly you’ve got pensions sitting in different places that haven’t been looked at for years. 📂

✅ Sometimes they’re absolutely fine where they are.

❌ Sometimes they’re not.

But either way, it’s usually worth understanding what you actually have.
A lot of financial planning isn’t about doing anything drastic.
It’s about getting organised and making informed decisions 👍

The pressure of keeping on top of money.

Sometimes the biggest benefit of a financial plan isn’t actually financial.

It’s clarity.

📂 Knowing where everything is

📊 Knowing what’s happening

✅ Knowing somebody is helping keep things on track

A lot of people carry financial stress quietly in the background for years.

👉 Old pensions.

👉 Savings accounts.

👉 Protection policies.

Plans they keep meaning to revisit “when things calm down.”
The problem is… life rarely calms down on its own.

And often, simply getting organised can feel like a huge relief.
Not because everything suddenly becomes perfect.

But because things finally start to feel clearer and more in control.

If any of this resonates with you, it might be a sign that getting financial advice could help bring a bit more clarity and confidence around your finances.

The cost of doing nothing 📉

Not in a good “stay invested” way.

More in a “I’ll sort that later” way.

📂 Old pensions left where they are.
💷 Cash sitting in accounts not really doing much.
📋 Plans that were started but never revisited.

It’s easy to leave things as they are, especially when life is busy.

But over time, doing nothing can have a cost.

❌ Missed opportunities
❌ Inefficiencies
❌ Things not quite working as well as they could

A lot of the value in financial planning isn’t about doing something drastic.

It’s about making sure what you already have is working properly ✅

Over the last few weeks, I’ve had a lot of conversations around ISAs, pensions, markets and just general planning.

And the common theme across all of them is pretty simple.

There’s rarely one big decision that changes everything.

It’s usually a series of smaller ones.

Using allowances 📊

Staying consistent 🔁

Reviewing things as life changes 🔍

None of it is particularly flashy, but together it builds something meaningful over time.

And that’s really what most people are trying to do.

Not chase perfection.

Just make good decisions, consistently 👍

There’s always a bit of a balance when it comes to money.
Enjoying life now 🌴 and looking after your future self 📈

Go too far one way and you miss out today.

Too far the other and you might regret it later.

Most of the conversations I’ve been having recently haven’t been about
extremes.

They’ve been about finding that middle ground.

✅ Still going on holiday ✈️

✅ Still doing the things you enjoy

✅ But also quietly putting things in place in the background.

Because future you will be very grateful for the decisions current you makes… even if they don’t feel that exciting at the time.

It’s easy to think a financial plan is just about numbers.

The house, the car, the pension, the income.

And don’t get me wrong, those things all matter.

But when you strip it back, that’s not really what it’s all about.

What people are actually working towards is the freedom to live their life and make memories 😊

Saturday was one of those reminders for me. A day at the football with my daughter, the kind of day you don’t forget. The seventy-ninth minute goal, celebrating together, that feeling in the moment… it’s what it’s all about 🔵🟡

Unfortunately we couldn’t quite hold on in the end, but that didn’t really matter. Because it was never just about the result.

Moments like that are what stay with you.

And in a way, that’s what good financial advice should help create. Not just numbers on a page, but the freedom to enjoy more of those moments.

That’s what it’s really about. Not just building wealth, but building a life you’ll remember 😇

Pensions don’t always get the most excitement when they come up in conversation.

➡️ They feel far away.

➡️ A bit complicated.

➡️ Easy to put off for another day.

But I’ve been having a lot of conversations recently where people are starting to see them differently.

Not just as “something for later”… but as a really powerful planning tool.

✅Tax efficiency.

✅Flexibility.

✅Options around how and when you take income.

When you actually break it down, they’re not as rigid as people think.

And when you start engaging with them a bit earlier, they can open up a lot more choice down the line.

If this is something that you have been thinking about, speaking to a financial adviser could be a good first step.

Timing vs time in the market

One of the biggest temptations when markets feel uncertain is trying to “get the timing right”.

🤔 Wait for things to settle.
🤔 Wait for a better moment.
🤔 Wait until it feels more comfortable.

The challenge is, those moments are only obvious in hindsight.

In reality, the people who tend to do well over time aren’t the ones who time it perfectly. They’re the ones who stay consistent.

✅ They keep investing.
✅ They stick to the plan.
✅ They don’t let short term emotion drive long term decisions.

It sounds simple, but it’s not always easy.
Especially when everything around you is telling you to do the opposite.

Market noise vs reality

If you’ve looked at the news recently, you’d be forgiven for thinking markets are all over the place. War, inflation, politics… there’s always something.

And naturally, that leads to a lot of questions.

“Should I be doing something?”
“Is now a bad time?”

The interesting thing is, these questions come up every single year… just with different headlines.

But when you zoom out, markets have always had noise. It’s part of the journey.

Most long term plans aren’t built on avoiding volatility. They’re built on accepting it.

It doesn’t make it feel any nicer in the moment, but perspective is everything.

Short term noise, long term direction.
