URGENT!!!

This message is for all self-employed clients, which includes sole traders and partnerships. It does not include directors or limited companies. Apologies if this does not apply to you – it is a block email to all clients.

HMRC have brought forward the SEISS. It was originally being brought out in June but the portal is now going to open next week. The online service will be available from 13th May 2020.

Could you please go to https://www.gov.uk/guidance/claim-a-grant-through-the-coronavirus-covid-19-self-employment-income-support-scheme or google ‘HMRC homepage’. This tells you everything about the scheme and you are able to check for eligibility.

There are some steps that you must take in order to be able to claim this money:

1. Check online to see if you are eligible. In order to do this you will need your National Insurance number and also your unique tax reference number (UTR). This can be found on any document from HMRC.
If you are eligible HMRC will then tell you what date you’ll be able to make the claim from and will ask you to add your contact details. There is a review process if HMRC says you are not eligible.
2. If you are unable to claim online an alternative way to claim will be available. HMRC will update their homepage with this information soon.
3. You MUST open up a Government Gateway account. This can be done when checking eligibility. Please keep the username and password safe for future reference.
4. When making your claim they will ask you for your bank account details.

You will have to confirm to HMRC that your business has been adversely affected by coronavirus. HMRC will check and reclaim monies if this is not the case.

Once you have submitted your claim you will be told straight away if the grant has been approved. HMRC will then pay the grant into your bank account within 6 working days.

KEEP ALL RECORDS OF THIS GRANT. You will need this information in order to prepare next year’s Tax Return – as the money is taxable. You will also have to report the grant to Universal Credit and Tax Credits.

So in summary:

· Go to HMRC homepage and click on the link for SEISS
· Check eligibility
· Create a Government Gateway account

You will then be ready to submit your claim as soon as HMRC tells you to do so. HMRC have insisted that they have made this an easy process.

We are always here to help and guide. It would be really useful however if everyone did this over the bank holiday weekend. You will then be set up to make the claim. HMRC have all of your financial information from the submitted Tax Returns.

If you receive texts, calls or emails claiming to be from HMRC, offering financial help or a tax refund and asking you to click on a link or to give personal information, it is a scam. You should email it to [email protected] and then delete it.

Have a great bank holiday, enjoy your socially isolating VE Day Celebrations!

If you're self-employed or a member of a partnership and have been adversely affected by coronavirus (COVID-19) find out if you can use this scheme to claim a grant.

To all clients and anyone who has business concerns.

I have today updated our business website to reflect the Government announcement yesterday. The HMRC helpline 03004563565 has been constantly engaged since 9am this morning. As soon as I manage to get through I will again update our website with any further news.

We currently haven’t been told how to reclaim the SSP. I will update the website again as soon as I know.

We have been informed that the various councils will contact businesses directly in relation to the grant available for businesses eligible for small business rate relief. I haven’t established yet if this is repayable or not.

By the end of this week I hope to have all staff working from home. I will be manning the office. We will stay open for as long as possible. It is intended that our standard of service will not drop. We are doing everything in our powers to keep you informed and to continue our services.

Please bear with us.......... we are all in this together. Be sensible. Cut all unnecessary costs. Concentrate on paying staff. HMRC will allow you time to pay taxes. This may be essential to keeping your business afloat. Look at your finances now.

If necessary try to put loans etc in place now.

Do not leave this til the last minute. Take all grants available.

I will update my website as soon as I hear any further news relating to businesses and taxes. We are at the end of a phone if you need us.

Stay safe and look after each other

Please continue to buy from your local shops they need you more than ever now!!!

One positive.
