When the pressure is on, instinct isn’t always the best guide — in football or investing. ⚽🥅

As the World Cup reminds us, goalkeepers often dive during penalties when staying central might actually be the better option. It’s a natural reaction under pressure.

The same can apply to investing. In a world full of headlines and uncertainty, reacting to short term noise can be tempting, but staying focused on a long term approach has historically proved more effective.

The value of investments can rise and fall. Positive returns are more likely if you invest for the long term, but this is not guaranteed and you could get back less than you invest.

How was your weekend?

We spent ours in Brighton, cheering on David, Neil, Cameron and Lola as they completed the British Heart Foundation’s

🚴🏻‍♀️London to Brighton Bike Ride – an incredible 54 miles🚴🏻‍♂️

Twelve months ago, Lola - David’s Grandaughter - stood at the finish line waiting for her family to complete the ride, just as she had done for the previous eight years. Last year while standing there she set herself a goal

‘Do you know what? I am going to ride this next year’

And yesterday she did exactly that.

The team were up at 4:30am to catch the organised bus to London before beginning their journey back to Brighton. Arriving in London, Lola was full of excitement and the atmosphere among the thousands of cyclists gave her the confidence to take on the challenge.

David, his son-in-law Neil and his Grandson Cameron have taken part in this incredible event for many years. The atmosphere throughout the day – and especially at the finish line is always amazing with the supporters cheering on every cyclist.

Liam (another Grandson) unfortunately had to withdraw his place due to recent knee surgery and although he enjoyed cheering on the cyclist he missed not being on the other side and riding with the team.

The support along the route—from water stations to the crowds lining the villages was truly heartwarming. With temperatures soaring, local residents had plenty of fun cooling riders down with their hosepipes something that was very much appreciated by everyone taking part.

Of course, there was the challenge of the famous
Ditchling Beacon hill:
📍Distance: 0.9 miles / 1.45 km
📍 Height gain: 143m
📍 Average gradient: 9%
📍 Maximum gradient 16%

A huge congratulations to all four for completing this fantastic challenge.

Who knows…… we may have more riders joining the team next year as Neil completes his 10th ride

I had the pleasure of attending the Bath College 2026 Celebrating Success Award Ceremony with Emily last evening.

As a Practice we all know how amazing Emily is, but to see her recognised by her lecture amongst so many talented students makes us exceptionally proud. Emily has been with us for 18 months and it has been a pleasure watching her knowledge, skills and confidence grow during that time.

She is never afraid to ask questions, has a fantastic level of care for anyone who walks through our door and takes great pride in her work. We are excited to see her role continue to develop and grow in the future. Emily has a keen eye for the Marketing world, I love how she will come to me with 'I have an idea’ 🤔

• SOLLA Retirement Advice Accreditation

As part of the assessment process David was required to complete a Case Study, develop a comprehensive advice plan and present his recommendations to an expert panel, answering details questions on the advice he would provide.
