There’s plenty happening in the world that’s worth feeling hopeful about 🌍
Here are a few stories that caught our attention this week…

🧠 AI-assisted surgery has helped doctors safely remove a brain tumour
🦅 The UK’s rarest breeding bird of prey has raised six chicks
🌿 A restored Somerset wetland stayed green through one of the UK’s hottest summers
🔬 A major study has linked HRT use with a lower risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease
🔧 New right-to-repair rules are making it easier to fix household goods in Ireland

And closer to home… 👋

Last week, we welcomed Darcie from Kirkham Grammar School to Becketts for a week of work experience.

With her sights set on some of the UK’s top universities next year, we were pleased to give her a glimpse into working life and some space to think about what her future career could look like.

A welcome reminder that even a small investment in the next generation can make a real difference.

Life admin has a habit of piling up📚

An old pension you've lost track of. A statement you opened, didn't understand, and put straight in a drawer. Paperwork that's been "on the list" for about three years now.

You're not alone 0 and you're definitely not the problem. Financial paperwork is often written in a way that makes sense to nobody except the person who wrote it 🙃

That's where we come in. Bring us everything 0 the folder, the drawer, the bag you've been avoiding - and we'll sort through it, simplify it, and tell you plainly what it actually means for you.

No jargon. No judgement. Just a clearer picture of where you stand 🔍

Make the most of it.

Bring us the shopping bag full of paperwork. We'll take it from there 🛍️📄

You know the one. Sat at the side of your desk, or shoved in a drawer somewhere. Pension statements you don't understand, from a pension you'd half forgotten you had.

For most people, that pile is the worst part of financial services. For us, it's genuinely one of our favourite bits.

Bring it all in, every letter, every statement, every "what even is this?" document. We'll go through it, work out what matters, get rid of what doesn't, and explain the rest in plain English.

No jargon. No judgement. Just clarity, so you actually know what you've got and what it means for you ✨

If there's a bag like that somewhere in your house, it might be time to let us take a look 👀

Make the most of it.

The news cycle doesn’t always leave much room for the good stuff. So here are a few stories worth making room for. 🌎

A personalised cancer vaccine is showing promising results. London’s cleaner air is being linked to healthier lungs in children. Atlantic bluefin tuna are returning to north-east England. Porto is making public transport free for residents. And whale sightings are rising off southern Africa.

Different stories, from different parts of the world. Each one a reminder that progress is often quieter than the headlines around it.

The world is better than your feed.

You don't need permission to retire. You need a proper plan 📋

So many people wait for someone to tell them they're "allowed" - a green light from an adviser, a magic number in their pension pot, a feeling of certainty that never quite arrives.

But retirement isn't about permission. It's about clarity.

Once you know exactly where you stand - your income, your outgoings, what you actually need versus what you've been told you need - the decision usually becomes a lot clearer.

That's what proper financial planning does. Not guesswork. Not gut feel. Just a clear, honest picture you can make a real decision from.

If you're asking yourself "could I retire?" = that's usually the moment to find out properly, rather than keep wondering 💭

"You can't retire." That's what he'd been told. Twice 🙅

One of our clients came to us about 15 years ago after two other advisers had already said the same thing: retirement wasn't on the cards for him.

He didn't believe that. And honestly? Neither did we, once we looked properly 👀

So we did what we always do - dug into the detail, ran the numbers properly, and built a plan we could genuinely stand behind.

Turns out he could retire. Not on a guess. On solid, evidence-based planning that gave him (and us) real confidence in the decision.

15 years on, he's still enjoying that retirement 🥂

This is exactly why "can I retire?" is one of our favourite questions to be asked. It's rarely as simple as yes or no - but with the right planning, it's answerable💡

Every situation is different, and outcomes like this aren't guaranteed for everyone. But if you've been told "no" and you're not sure you believe it either, it might be worth a second look.

Make the most of it ✨

Not every positive story makes the headlines. But good things are happening all around us 🌍

This week’s reminder…

🚐 Royal Mail now has 9,000 electric vans on the road
🦅 Ospreys are breeding in England again after generations away
🐶 Dogs’ brains really do respond differently when they see us smile
🦈 Sharks could help scientists predict the strength of hurricanes

And closer to home… 🚴♂️

James has just completed an 800-mile ride from Munich to Venice, taking on around 80,000ft of climbing across the Alps and Dolomites. Safe to say, he’s earned a rest. 👏

A welcome reminder to look beyond the feed now and again.

A client once told us he wasn't planning for himself anymore. He'd built what he needed. Now it was about his kids, and their kids.

That's generational planning, really. Less about the size of the pot, more about who gets to dip into it, and when.

It changes the questions you ask. Not "how much can I spend?" but "what do I want to leave behind, and how do I get there without leaving a mess for the people I love?"

Tax matters here. Timing matters. So does actually having the conversation with your family, before it becomes urgent.

We help people have that conversation, and build the plan that sits behind it.

Thinking beyond yourself, to the people who come after you. That's generational planning.

"Who do you work with and why?" We asked Jason Street, a Financial Planner here at Becketts, this question, and his answer says a lot about how we work 👇

Jason's clients are often former business owners. People who've spent decades building something from scratch, then took the leap to sell it.

That's where Jason comes in. Not to manage a number on a spreadsheet, but to help them figure out: what now? 🤔

For many, that means:

🧩 Untangling the tax side, so less is lost to it
👨👩👧👦 Thinking beyond themselves - children, grandchildren, what gets passed down
🎯 Investing for decades, not headlines

It's a big shift, from building a business to planning a legacy, and it's the kind of journey our planners across Becketts guide clients through every single day.

That's what Becketts does best: taking something complex and making it feel simple.

Make the most of it.
