⚠️Don't Get Caught Out By Payments on Account ⚠️

If you’re self employed, July can often bring an unexpected tax bill due to HMRC’s “Payments on Account” system.

Your second Payment on Account for the 2025/26 tax year is due by 31st July 2026. These advance payments are made towards your next tax bill and can catch many business owners off guard if they haven’t planned ahead.

A good tip is to start setting money aside regularly now, rather than waiting until the deadline approaches.

Planning ahead can help:

🔹Avoid cash flow pressure
🔸Reduce financial stress
🔹Prevent late payment penalties and interest
🔸Make budgeting throughout the year much easier

If you’re unsure how much you may need to pay or whether Payments on Account apply to you, we can help you estimate upcoming liabilities and plan ahead effectively.

💡 Has your company year end recently passed?

Now is the best time to get things moving...

Sending your records to us early means we can:
✔ Prepare your accounts sooner
✔ Calculate your Corporation Tax well in advance
✔ Give you plenty of time to plan and set money aside

👉 Remember, Corporation Tax is due 9 months and 1 day after your year end — but leaving things late can lead to unnecessary pressure.

Business rates have changed in Wales...have you checked your new bill?

From April 2026, business rates have been revalued, which means your property’s rateable value may have changed.

✔ Some businesses may benefit from lower bills
⚠️ Others may see increases based on updated valuations

To help with this, transitional relief is in place, meaning any increases are phased in over time rather than applied all at once.

It’s important to:

🔸Review your latest bill
🔹Check your new rateable value
🔸Understand how it affects your costs going forward

If you’re unsure what the changes mean for your business, we’re happy to take a look and talk it through with you.

💸 Paying tax late is getting more expensive

HMRC currently charges daily interest on overdue tax, meaning the longer a payment is delayed, the more it will cost.

On top of this, late payment penalties can also apply if amounts remain unpaid.

This can quickly turn a manageable bill into a much larger one.

With changes like Making Tax Digital introducing more frequent submissions, it’s more important than ever to:

✔ Know what you owe
✔ Plan ahead
✔ Set funds aside in advance

If you’re unsure what’s coming up or need help planning, feel free to get in touch.
