Exciting News!

We’re delighted to announce that we have acquired the client fee base of MJ Ruffles & Co, a long established and highly respected local accountancy practice.

As part of this transition, Mark Ruffles will be joining our team to ensure continuity and a smooth handover for all clients. Mark brings over 40 years of experience as a Chartered Accountant, having qualified in 1985 before spending time in Africa working for Deloittes. After returning to the UK in the late 1980s, he established Mark J Ruffles & Co in 1993 and has since built a strong, trusted practice supporting clients of all sizes.

Mark’s deep expertise and long-standing client relationships make him a fantastic addition to our firm, and we’re proud to welcome him aboard.

Exciting News!

We’ve indicated a few times that there is big news coming this year: here’s the first!

We are delighted to announce that, effective 1 January, we have acquired PAYE.Network Ltd.

PAYE.Network provides specialist payroll services and support including through the re-sale of Employment Hero standalone payroll software licences for accountants and businesses managing their own payroll operations.

As part of the acquisition, Chris Deeson, one of the former directors, will be joining our team. Chris was an integral part of the UK team that developed the original payroll software and will support our advisory work on the Employment Hero standalone payroll product. Chris is currently also a member of the Quickbooks Certified Trainer Network and gives us detailed knowledge and experience on Quickbooks Payroll Bureau Platform and Quickbooks Advanced Payroll.

This acquisition strengthens our ability to provide expert Employment Hero support and advice, while significantly expanding our presence within the payroll advisory market.

We are excited to welcome Chris on board and look forward to the opportunities this creates for our clients and partners."

Nerdy numbers!

Did you know, 11.48 million people managed to file their tax returns on time this year, representing 97.25% of all returns due.

Of those filed, 475,722 were filed on 31 January, including 27,456 who filed theirs in the final hour of the day - 23:00 to 00:00 - with the busiest hour of the day being 17:00 to 18:00, seeing 32,982 returns filed.

Over the Christmas period, 23,731 were filed on Christmas Eve, 4,606 filed on Christmas Day (yep, you read that right) and 11,932 filed on Boxing Day. Furthermore, 34,264 were filed on new years eve and 19,789 were filed on new years day - starting the new year off on the right foot??

Despite the impressive numbers filing on time, around 1 million tax returns remain outstanding.

This year, as deadline day fell on a Saturday, HMRC opened their helpline for special extended hours to support those filing at the last minute. On that day, they received 5,409 webchats and 10,483 phone calls.

As Cadbury Creme Egg would probably say in this instance - "When Did You File Yours.....?"
