It's Monday, again!

However, this one is different from the past few months, the flowers are starting to bud and bloom, there's a slight warming of the air and it's not raining! What a difference a bit of sun makes.

With the spring in our step, we thought it was a good time to revisit and try to spread some positivity.

We liked this quote: "Every Monday is a new ledger - fill it with value, purpose, and progress".

Before everyone starts with those "It's beginning to look a lot like..." posts, please allow us to chime in and tell you that we're currently taking on Self Assessment Tax Return work at this very moment.

Already? Yep, right now. This is the ideal time to ensure your submission is completed accurately and without unnecessary delay.

Plus you'll also avoid the January deadline pressure; allowing ample time to gather information we request and address any queries we may have.

Further benefits of submitting your return early include:

- being able to plan your finances early due to already knowing your tax liability (if any)

this week is all about guising, given it is the 31st of October! It's what we now know as dressing up for Halloween, but why do we do it?

1. Guising began as part of the ancient Pagan festival of Samhain, celebrated by the Celts to mark the end of the summer and the harvest season, and welcomed the darker season which symbolised death and rebirth

2. During Samhain, the Celts believed that the veil between the world of the living and the 'Otherworld' was at its thinnest, therefore spirits and supernatural creatures could cross over more easily

3. Guising, or disguising oneself would offer protection from these spirits that crossed over. These original costumes were truly terrifying, with animal skins and skulls commonly used

4. When guising, performing is mandatory - a song, joke, or other 'party piece' is required in exchange for a reward, or a 'treat'. Treats were traditionally cakes, fruits, nuts

5. Before pumpkins arrived on the scene (thanks to migrants taking the traditions to America) revelers carved turnips or 'neeps'. One can only imagine how arduous this was! The results are impactful though - we'll leave you to Google the photos...

Does keeping on top of your accounting scare the life out of you?

Would you rather try and carve a neep, over pinning down your figures?

this week - all about UK

1. Since 2015, the UK Met Office and Met Éireann name storms to make them easier to follow. The one about to hit Scotland is 'Amy'

2. The Great Storm of 1703 was so wild, it sank entire fleets AND toppled the Eddystone lighthouse

3. Scotland holds the record for the most powerful gust - a whopping 173 mph atop the Cairngorm Summit in 1986! See, we do win at some things...

4. Scotland often sees the wildest winds, thanks to the Atlantic jet stream. It acts as a sort of storm conveyor belt, driving storms straight here from North America

5. Victorian London’s name was 'Foggy London Town', however most of the time this was actually smog driven to the city by the wind - yuk.

Do you need help to see through the financial fog shrouding your business?

Would you rather climb the Cairngorms, than tackle your books?

You're in luck!

We love nothing better than blowing away the cobwebs and getting stuck in, to breathe new life into your business; without all the drama and bluster.

We offer a free, 15 minute online discovery appointment. It couldn't be easier to get the help you need.

Organise this appointment by emailing [email protected] or by filling out the contact form on our website www.caas.org.uk

We can't wait to help you weather the storm.
