📌 Protect your income if illness hits

Being unable to work due to sickness or injury can be financially tough, especially if you don’t have sick pay or savings.

Protection insurance gives you peace of mind: income protection pays a regular income if you can’t work, while critical illness cover pays a one‑off lump sum that can help clear debts, fund treatment or adapt your lifestyle.

Costs depend on age, health, job and the level of cover, and payouts from personal policies are usually tax‑free. It’s worth reviewing existing employer cover and considering private policies to fill any gaps, particularly for self‑employed people who don’t qualify for statutory sick pay.

💷 Buy‑to‑let: are the tax benefits still worth it?

Rising rents might look promising, but UK landlords face higher taxes, stricter rules, and rising costs. From April 2027, personal rental profits will be taxed more, mortgage interest relief is limited, and stamp duty on extra properties is higher. Many landlords are turning to limited companies for more favourable tax treatment, but navigating the rules is tricky.

🏠 B2L can still provide income and diversification, but professional advice is key.

For years, owning a portfolio of buy-to-let properties was seen as a reliable way to earn steady income and build long-term wealth. But the landscape has shifted. Rents continue to climb across much of the UK. However, tax changes and rising costs have made it more difficult for landlords to turn hi...

Markets have reacted to rising geopolitical tensions following coordinated US and Israel strikes on Iran, with oil prices rising and investors moving toward so-called “safe haven” assets.

Events like these can create short-term volatility, but they also highlight the importance of staying disciplined and focused on long-term investment goals. History shows that reacting emotionally to market shocks can often do more harm than good.

Our latest Stock Take explores the potential economic ripple effects – from oil prices and inflation to investor behaviour – and why diversification and a long-term mindset remain key.

Will your business fund the retirement you deserve?

The article explains that many business owners who plan to fund their retirement from selling their business often discover the current value isn’t enough to support their retirement goals. It stresses the importance of understanding the true value of your business, looking beyond simple earnings multiples, because factors like client concentration, owner reliance, and recurring revenue all affect valuation.

It highlights the benefit of identifying early if there’s a gap between what your business is worth and what you’ll need for retirement, and planning ways to grow value over time rather than rushing a sale. A real-world example shows a business that doubled in sale value through careful planning and specialist support.

Here’s to another year of celebrating excellence across Oldham’s business community! 💼

What a fantastic evening we had at the Oldham Business Awards Winners' Dinner, recently held at Grandpa Greene’s Bistro & Parlour in Uppermill! 🌟

We at Albion House Wealth Management were delighted to host and sponsor the evening, celebrating the incredible achievements of the OBA 2025 winners alongside their guests.

Our Director Richard Eastwood and Chairman of the OBA David Wadsworth (Cornerstone Design & Marketing) spoke during the evening to personally thank the winners for their outstanding achievements and to encourage everyone to get involved in next year’s awards, whether by entering, sponsoring, or inspiring others to participate. 👏

Guests enjoyed a relaxed night with a delicious three-course meal by Greene’s, finished perfectly with acoustic music from local singer Dave Brown. It was a wonderful evening to celebrate success, connect with fellow winners, and enjoy some well-earned recognition.
