A bookkeeper is invaluable to you, the business owner, freeing up your time to, well, run your business. Many people starting up their own business think that they can look after their own books, but did they really go into business to do this? A good bookkeeper will take on your paperwork on a regular basis, organise, sort out and process it intelligently onto some sort of accounting

software package. Some business owners will ask what is it, then, that an Accountant does. An Accountant is trained to do compliance work for HMRC and Corporation Tax planning. They have the knowledge to work out tax planning and the best way to file Annual Tax Returns. They also provide a longer strategic role. This is something that a Bookkeeper is not trained to do. Will an accountant also do bookkeeping work? Well not really as they are trained to do other things and are not really interested in the nitty-gritty bits of running a business. Is an accountant the cheapest when it comes to bookkeeping? Therefore both a Bookkeeper and an Accountant are invaluable to a business owner. I have been doing this sort of work for nearly thirty years. I can provide all the information you want, when you want, and will take away the hassle and worry about things such as filing VAT returns correctly and on time. I offer a straightforward and flexible approach to your bookkeeping needs, whether it be on a weekly or monthly or quarterly or even an annual basis. I use both TasBooks and Quickbooks accountancy software. Some of the things I do:-

Take all your paperwork, whether in some sort or order or not, and sort & process it ready for entry onto the computer. SALES
Raise and enter Sales Invoices, making sure the correct VAT rate is used. Enter Sales Receipts. Provide an up-to-date Sales Age report showing who still owes money. PURCHASE
Process and enter Purchase Invoices, checking to make sure clients have not been charged twice and that the supplier has complied with current VAT regulations. Enter payments, or even taking over the hassle of doing this for my clients. Provide an up-to-date Purchase Age report showing who is still owed money and when it is due. BANK ACCOUNT / CREDIT CARD ACCOUNT
Entering and checking the bank/credit card account and doing regular bank reconciliations, thus alerting my client to anything untoward. VAT RETURNS
probably the most worrying and stressful thing any VAT registered business owner encounters. I make sure the returns are filed on time and with the correct information, whether Standard, Cash or Flat Rate accounting. These days with online filing, HMRC is very much on the ball with late returns and payments, and the fines for late filing are getting worse. VAT inspections are not pretty, but as long as you are confident that your books are kept in good order then you have nothing to worry about. Period end reports and End Year reports. Using the information entered onto the accounts software, I produce regular Profit Loss accounts showing the profitability and solvency of a business, alerting if things are going in the wrong direction. At the end of the year I produce a set of end year control accounts and this is then sent to my client's accountant along with the paperwork held. I can also offer a Remote Update Service. Please contact me to talk about your business requirements.
