Small companies will soon face greater reporting and disclosure obligations following significant updates to Financial Reporting Standard 102 (FRS 102), applying to accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026.

In our latest blog post, we explain what's changing and what it could mean for your business.

Key updates include expanded disclosure requirements on related parties, directors’ remuneration, dividends, leases, taxation, and going concern – alongside increased transparency expectations from Companies House.

While more businesses may now qualify as “small”, the reporting burden is set to increase.

After almost 15 years remaining unchanged, the approved mileage allowance payment rate for cars and vans has increased from 45p to 55p per mile for the first 10,000 business miles travelled.

The rate for business mileage above 10,000 miles will remain at 25p per mile, with no changes announced for motorcycle or bicycle mileage rates.

The new rate will apply from 6 April 2026 and may impact employees and businesses claiming mileage relief or reimbursing business travel expenses.

Farmers and hauliers are set to benefit from a fresh round of fuel support measures, as the government confirms the 5p fuel duty cut will remain in place until the end of the year. Alongside the extension, hauliers will receive a 12-month road tax holiday, while red diesel users – a key concern for the farming sector – will see duty cut by more than a third from 15 June.

The updated SORP brings key changes to how charities account for income under revised FRS 102 requirements, effective for periods beginning 1 January 2026.

The main impact is a more structured approach to income recognition, including clearer separation of exchange and non-exchange transactions and a stronger focus on the substance of arrangements.

Charities should be reviewing funding agreements and accounting policies ahead of implementation to ensure compliance.

Proposed changes to Inheritance Tax rules from April 2027 could significantly affect how pension wealth is passed on to future generations.

In our latest article, Emma Hunt and Lisa Craggs explore what the changes could mean for individuals, families, and business owners — including increased tax exposure, added administration for estates, and the importance of reviewing existing estate planning arrangements.

With pensions potentially becoming less tax efficient from an estate planning perspective, now is a good time to review your arrangements ahead of the new rules coming into effect.

🎲 Last week, some of our team enjoyed attending the Keeler Recruitment Charity Casino Night in support of the brilliant Break charity.

Sadly, we didn’t manage to hold onto our winning title from last year but it was still a fantastic evening of fun, fundraising, and a little friendly competition for a great cause.

Thank you to Keeler Recruitment for organising another brilliant event.

🌿 Earlier this week, some of our team had the opportunity to volunteer at one of Break charity’s residential homes, helping with a range of practical outdoor tasks including gardening, weeding, and fence painting.

Thankfully, the team managed to dodge the worst of the rain and spent the day helping to refresh the outdoor space for the young people who live there. It was a rewarding experience to give back to such a fantastic local charity and learn more about the incredible work they do across East Anglia.

Break Charity works across East Anglia, improving the lives of young people on the edge of care, in care, and leaving care.
