📢 Important update – Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax
HMRC has confirmed that Making Tax Digital (MTD) will start soon and will change the way many self-employed individuals and landlords report their income.
✅ MTD becomes mandatory based on your annual gross income (before expenses):
From April 2026: Income over £50,000
From April 2027: Income over £30,000
From April 2028: Income over £20,000
👉 What will change?
You will need to keep digital records of your income and expenses.
You will submit quarterly updates to HMRC instead of one annual Self Assessment.
You must use MTD-compatible accounting software.
ℹ️ HMRC will determine whether you fall into MTD based on your latest Self Assessment and will send an official notification if you are required to join.
✋ If your income is close to the threshold, it’s a good idea to start preparing early — choosing software and organising records now will make the transition much easier.
💬 If you’re unsure whether MTD applies to you, or you’d like help getting ready, send me a message — I’m here to support you through the process.
