We like sustainability initiatives that actually show up in how we run the business.

Being a B Corp keeps us thinking about the choices we make at Blu Sky, including the ones that affect our team.

Our EV scheme is one of the latest examples. It gives our people another option for making the switch to electric, while supporting the environmental commitments we’ve made as a business. ⚡

It sits alongside plenty of other changes we’ve made over the years, from going paperless to thinking more carefully about how we track our emissions.

None of these things will change the world overnight. But they’re practical changes we can actually make.

And we’d much rather keep making them than have a sustainability policy gathering dust somewhere.

How are you feeling about the next few months in business?

ICAEW’s latest Business Confidence Monitor makes for interesting reading. Confidence among private SMEs fell from +2.1 in Q1 to -16.1 in Q2 2026.

It’s a pretty big shift, and maybe not a surprising one. There’s a lot for business owners to weigh up at the moment.

But lower confidence doesn’t have to mean putting your plans on hold.

If you’re thinking about hiring, investing or making another big move, spending some time with your numbers can help you work out what feels achievable.

Could you still make the hire if sales were 10% below forecast? What would the investment do to your cash position six months from now? How much breathing room have you actually got?

Forecasts can’t predict everything that’s coming, but they let you test a few different versions of the future.

We have these conversations with clients all the time, helping them forecast, understand the numbers and work out what their plans could look like in practice.

Accountants have a bit of a reputation for being the people who say no.

Can we make that hire?
Can we invest in this?
Can we finally buy that expensive coffee machine? ☕👀

Sometimes a “no” is necessary. But a good conversation with your accountant should leave you with a clearer idea of what’s possible and how you could get there.

The answer might be, “yes, and here’s what we need to think about.” Or it could be, “no, but if we did this first, the numbers could work.”

That could mean waiting a couple of months before making the hire, working out what level of sales would make an investment stack up, or tweaking the plan so you can move forward without putting too much pressure on cash.

And that’s much easier to figure out when you’ve got a clear view of your numbers and a forecast you can actually use.

From 11 to 20 November, there’s loads going on across the North East, with plenty of ways to get involved.

There’ll be mentoring sessions, networking, B Local events and lots of opportunities to meet, learn from and connect with entrepreneurs from across the region.

And you can do a lot more than attend.

Through Go Back to School, coordinated by RTC North, entrepreneurs can volunteer to head into local schools and share their own journey, helping to inspire the next generation.

Businesses can get involved too by hosting their own fringe event as part of the NEEW programme. We’ll be doing exactly that with our own event on 17 November 🙌

Our B Local Food Tour of Ouseburn is getting closer, so we’re introducing you to another two of the brilliant venues we’ll be visiting along the way.

🍽️ Cook House started life as a recipe blog and supper club before moving into two converted shipping containers in Ouseburn. It’s since grown into one of the area’s best-known restaurants, with recognition including a Michelin Plate and Financial Times Restaurant of the Year.

Their DIY philosophy is a big part of what makes them special. They grow produce, forage locally and make plenty in-house, from ferments to soft drinks.

They’re also big believers in supporting local suppliers, keeping more money in the North East economy while helping to reduce food miles.

🍺 Then there’s Full Circle Brew Co, one of our favourite Newcastle breweries.

Based in Hoults Yard, Full Circle has grown from a small development kit into an award-winning brewery with a real focus on community and sustainability.

Their ambition is to reach Net Zero by 2030, and they’re already measuring emissions, carbon labelling their cans and investing in more efficient brewing.

Some great news for the North East B Corp community! 🌍🚆

B Local North East has secured free travel with Lumo for 50 people heading to the Blue Earth Summit in London from 14–16 October.

Our Co-Founder Jon Dudgeon is part of B Local North East and will be joining the delegation representing Blu Sky.

We’re really looking forward to being there, and even happier that Lumo’s support is helping to remove some of the financial barriers to attending. Making events like this more accessible means more people can be part of important conversations around better, more sustainable ways of doing business.

Big news! We’re incredibly proud to be headline partner of North East Entrepreneurship Week 🙌

Brought together by Entrepreneurs’ Forum as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, NEEW will see entrepreneurs, founders and organisations come together from 11 to 20 November for ten days of events.

It’s all centred around one big ambition: to inspire more people to start and grow businesses in the North East.

Right now, the North East has 744 businesses for every 10,000 adults, compared with an average of 1,062 across England.

We know there’s no shortage of ambition, ideas or brilliant people here. But we need more people to see entrepreneurship as something they can pursue, and more ambitious businesses to start, grow and scale right here too.

By putting the spotlight on entrepreneurs already doing great things, sharing real experiences, creating opportunities for founders to connect and bringing local role models into schools, NEEW is all about showing more people what’s possible.

There’s loads happening across the ten days, and team Blu Sky will be getting stuck in, including hosting our own fringe event. More on that very soon 👀
