Proud to support local talent 👏

On 19th March, our directors, David Stevens and Gavin Kelly, attended the Sports Achievement Awards at Medina Theatre as sponsors of the Junior Girls Award.

It was an inspiring evening celebrating the dedication, hard work, and achievements of young athletes across the Isle of Wight. A huge congratulations to all the nominees and winners! The future of local sport is in great hands.

A few more moments from the Ryde School Careers Fair on 12th March

It was great to see such a strong turnout once again, and to have the chance to speak with so many students about their future pathways. There’s always a real buzz at these events, and it’s encouraging to see so much interest and curiosity from the next generation.

Thanks again to Ryde School for having us, we’re proud to be part of events that support young people as they take their next steps.

Yesterday, the team at Bright Brown Accountants attended the Careers Fair at Lift Ryde High School, promoting accountancy as a rewarding and future-focused career path.

It was fantastic to engage with students from Year 7 through to Sixth Form, discussing the wide range of opportunities available within the accounting profession from apprenticeships and AAT qualifications to university routes and chartered accountancy.

Events like this are incredibly important to us. As a local firm of accountants, we’re passionate about supporting young people across the Isle of Wight and helping them understand the diverse career opportunities within finance, bookkeeping, tax, and business advisory services.

Accountancy is more than just numbers. It’s about problem-solving, strategic thinking, supporting businesses, and building long-term careers with real progression and stability.

We look forward to continuing to support the next generation of finance professionals.

HMRC are aware some Contractors are failing to correctly verify Subcontractors. All subcontractors must be verified with HMRC to confirm their tax status prior to making payment or if not used in the previous two tax years. Failure to deduct the correct amount of CIS tax may result in penalties and fines being issued.

Contractors are also reminded that it is a legal requirement to provide statements of payments and deductions to subcontractors 14 days after the end of the tax period. Failure to do so can result in fines of up to £3,000.

It is a contractors responsibility to assess whether subcontractors are genuinely self employed. This can be done using the HMRC employment status checker https://www.gov.uk/guidance/check-employment-status-for-tax

HMRC will review contractors monthly returns and if a subcontractor appears on all 12 months of the tax year, may issue a compliance review. If following the review it is found that a subcontractor is not genuinely self employed, the contractor will be issued with a notice to pay employers national insurance, which is 15% for 2025/26.

Use the Check Employment Status for Tax (CEST) tool to find out if you, or a worker on a specific engagement, should be classed as employed or self-employed for tax purposes.
