What a great service offered to residents in Newport Pagnell.
Do you know about the Emergency Help scheme? Could it help someone you know?
Established by Churches Together in Newport Pagnell over 40 years ago, the Scheme provides transport by volunteer drivers to take Newport Pagnell residents to medical appointments, in town, in Milton Keynes, and further afield. They regularly take people to Oxford and their service area.
A modest charge is made to cover the driver’s fuel costs (as an example, the most popular destination is Milton Keynes University Hospital, for which the return fare is £6). The driver takes the passenger to their destination, stays, and brings them back at the end of the appointment.
The scheme are keen to make the scheme known to two audiences. First, to potential passengers. Secondly, to potential drivers, to ensure that we can continue to fulfil requests.
Anyone interested in volunteering as a driver can contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Dave Maynard, by email: [email protected]. Drivers are DBS-checked, and then covered by our Public Liability Insurance (but must have their own car insurance, allowing them to drive as a volunteer).
