From court ruling to tariff increase in under 48 hours.
This is now the pace of global trade policy. 🌎

In his latest article, Ed Boal (StructureFlow) explores how rapid tariff shifts are putting multinational structures under pressure and raising the bar for advisers.

When policy moves this fast, the real challenge is not technical knowledge, but understanding complex group structures quickly enough to give clear, confident advice. 🗣️

Static charts and outdated documentation struggle in this environment. What advisers increasingly need is live structural intelligence, a clear view of how entities and intercompany flows connect, and where exposure lies when change hits.

What if the future of accountancy is profit improvement? 💰

AI is already automating compliance work, margins are tightening, and firms are being pushed to “do advisory”. Yet 93% of accountants feel unprepared.

In his latest article, Shane Lukas (Managing Director, AVN The Accountants' Network) outlines three paths:
1️⃣ Ignore the change and risk falling behind
2️⃣ Compete on volume and price
3️⃣ Or evolve into a Profit Improvement Accountant

This third path is not about becoming a generic business advisor. It is about using financial insight to help clients improve profits, cash flow and long term resilience.

The future of accountancy is not less human. It is more valuable.

AI brings speed. Accountants bring ethical responsibility 🤝

At our recent Examiners Conference, we asked Professor Crawford Spence (Professor of Accounting, King's College London) how the profession should respond as AI becomes more embedded in accountancy.

In this mini interview, he shares insight on:
💭 How AIA qualifications can continue to evolve with technological change
💭 Why ethical responsibility must sit at the centre of AI use

AIA is focused on developing accountants who understand that with more powerful tools comes greater accountability. Because trust in financial information doesn’t come from algorithms, it comes from professionals who know when to question them.

The UK’s National Security and Investment (NSI) Act has become a key consideration in many transactions, and accountants are often the first to spot when it may apply.

In this article, Edward Tran and Oliver Williams (Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP) set out what accountants need to know about the NSI Act, including:

⚠️ Which transactions can trigger notification
⚠️ How the regime fits into due diligence
⚠️ The risks of getting it wrong

With no deal value thresholds and increasing government scrutiny across sensitive sectors, understanding NSI requirements is now an important part of supporting clients through acquisitions, restructures and ownership changes.

UK AML supervision is changing and accountants need to pay attention 🚨

The government is giving all anti-money laundering oversight for accountants to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), ending professional body supervision. AIA is concerned this centralised approach risks side-lining the expertise and insight that professional body supervision has built over years.

Why it matters:

⚠️ Professional bodies like AIA have deep knowledge of accountancy firms and have helped embed a culture of compliance.

⚠️ A single regulator may lead to gaps in supervision, higher costs for smaller firms, and a more administrative “box-ticking” approach.

⚠️ Transitioning oversight of 60,000 firms is a logistical challenge, and the stakes are high for maintaining the UK’s defences against financial crime.
