A growing business has many needs. These can be things such as managing the requirement for funding, hiring the right team, managing cash flow, improving customer relations, etc.

As accountants we will help you manage operations by recommending process improvements, taking over the financial obligations and introducing you to tools that can save you time and money.

As good as the word growth sounds, it comes with its own challenges. Sudden growth that you haven’t planned for can be as problematic as growth that is too slow, and lead to difficulties relating to cash flow, tax, employees or office space.

We can help you react quickly and effectively to unexpected growth and turn it into what it should be: an advantage.

🚗 First increase to HMRC car and van mileage rate since 2011

HMRC has published the approved mileage allowance payment rates for the 2026/27 tax year — and the car and van rate has finally increased.

From 6 April 2026, the approved mileage rate for cars and vans is:

✅ 55p per mile for the first 10,000 business miles
✅ 25p per mile after 10,000 business miles

This is the first update to the car and van rate since 2011, when it rose from 40p to 45p per mile. HMRC’s published rates now show the new 55p rate for 2026/27, with the 45p rate applying from 2011 to 2026.

Motorcycles remain at 24p per mile, bicycles at 20p per mile, and the passenger supplement remains 5p per mile for each qualifying passenger.

This is a significant change for employers, employees and business owners who claim or reimburse business mileage.

Make sure mileage records are accurate and up to date, including the date, destination, reason for travel and number of business miles.

Is your accountant qualified?

It is an important question for every business owner to ask.

Anyone can call themselves an accountant, but not everyone has the training, professional standards, regulation, and ongoing development required of a qualified Chartered Accountant.

Using an unqualified accountant can create real risks for your business, including:

✔ Incorrect tax returns or accounts
✔ Missed deadlines and penalties
✔ Poor advice that affects cash flow or profitability
✔ Compliance issues with HMRC or Companies House
✔ Lack of professional oversight if something goes wrong

A qualified Chartered Accountant brings technical expertise, professional accountability, and practical commercial advice to help you make better decisions.

At ApC Accountants, we believe your business deserves advice you can trust.

Before appointing an accountant, check their qualifications, professional body membership, and experience. It could make all the difference to your business.
