Wheelchair basketball has had a standout year, with Team England Women taking gold and Team England Men taking silver at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Proof of what sport can do when the right opportunities are there.

Which is exactly why we're delighted to share that the Chesterton House Foundation has awarded a £1,000 grant to Leicester Cobras Wheelchair Basketball Club.

Set up in 1992, Leicester Cobras is a longstanding sports charity based in Leicester city centre, offering wheelchair basketball to adults and young people aged 14 and over. The club welcomes people of all abilities, genders and backgrounds, with weekly training, the chance to compete in the British Wheelchair Basketball National League and Women's League, and plenty of social opportunities too.

Like many local sports organisations, Leicester Cobras faces rising running costs and league fees. The grant will help cover these essential costs, keeping sessions accessible and affordable for everyone who takes part.

September has a back-to-school feel, even long after you left school behind!

There's something about the shift from summer to autumn that makes people want to get organised... new pencil case, anyone?! In adult life this looks more like checking in, tidying up and planning ahead.

It's a good moment to ask: has anything changed since you last looked at your plan? A new job, a house move, a shift in priorities? Plans work best when they evolve with your life, not when they're left untouched for years.

If it's time for a check-in, we're here. Book a free call with one of our planners. [email protected]/?ismsaljsauthenabled=true&RefID=facebook" rel="ugc" target="_blank">https://bookings.cloud.microsoft/book/[email protected]/?ismsaljsauthenabled=true&RefID=facebook

There's a particular feeling to this bank holiday. The evenings are drawing in slightly earlier. The odd tree is already turning. Summer's not quite over, but you can feel it thinking about leaving.

It's harvest time too, if you look for it — fields of wheat and barley being brought in, orchards heavy with the first apples and plums of the season. There's something in that rhythm worth noticing: a good harvest doesn't happen by accident. It's the result of decisions made months earlier, when winter was still just a thought on the horizon.

Financial planning works the same way. The people who feel calm and prepared come autumn and winter are usually the ones who did the quiet groundwork back in spring and summer, not the ones scrambling once the cold sets in.

So if this long weekend gives you a moment to sit outside and think, it's worth asking: is your own harvest in good shape? Is there anything you've been meaning to prepare, before the season turns?

If there is, let's talk. Book a free call with one of our planners.

Ask a business owner what their company's worth, and most have a rough figure ready.

Ask what they personally need once it's sold: after tax, after fees, after everyone's had their cut, and the answer gets vaguer fast.

That's the gap between business value and your number. One's a market question. The other's yours to answer.

Sometimes the gap is reassuring. Sometimes it's a shock. Better to find out now than mid-negotiation.

A trip round town shouldn't need a carer alongside you. Shopmobility Melton Mowbray exists to make sure it doesn't.

The Chesterton House Foundation is delighted to announce a £500 grant to Shopmobility Melton Mowbray, helping the charity replace older mobility scooters with newer, refurbished models.

The charity hires out scooters and wheelchairs to residents across the town and surrounding rural communities, giving people the freedom to enjoy the shops, markets, and services on their own terms. Since Covid, it's worked hard to grow its fee and rental income, now approaching 50% self-sufficiency as it aims for full sustainability.

The grant will fund two refurbished scooters, sourced locally at a generous discount, updating the charity's stock and widening the choice available to customers.

Some of the best learning happens outdoors - hands in the soil, eyes on the birds, no walls in sight.

The Chesterton House Foundation is delighted to announce a £500 grant to Firfield Primary School, supporting a new school allotment and their growing outdoor learning curriculum.

The grant will fund child-sized gardening tools, bug houses, magnifying glasses, and binoculars for bird watching, plus a mud kitchen for younger pupils to explore and experiment. Reception children and a group of SEND pupils in Year 6 have already begun outdoor learning as the school works towards becoming a Forest School.

Alongside the allotment, the school is re-establishing a memorial garden for a former pupil who died thirty years ago, having recently reconnected with his family. Community "big digs" over the past six months have brought neighbours together around the project, and a local preschool now uses the outdoor space too.
