Absolutely incredible. THREE QUARTERS - that's about 650,000 landlords and traders - have failed to register for Making Tax Digital ITSA by the 5th April 2026 deadline. The system is a disaster.

The new £50,000 rule came into effect at the start of April.

We see this with our hospitality clients. UK Hospitality were given assurances about rates discounts before the budget, only for Reeves to u-turn at the last minute when it became apparent that they couldn't afford to do that and increase child benefit.

Ok, I’m doing my best not to swear, but I am still fu***ng fuming about today’s bulls**t…🤬
(Oops, I failed! 🤷‍♂️)

Let’s just visualise exactly what has happened.

Because Labour are trying to spin this as a positive, which it absolutely, 100% is not. 🤥

So, imagine this…

I currently sell a delicious pint of cask ale for the fair and reasonable price of £5 a pint…🍺

I then announce, out loud, that I will soon be helping you all out with this price…🎉

But actually, secretly, sneakily, I’m increasing the price to £10 a pint! (*Mwahahaha*) 😈

But you all notice…

And you start shouting about it…

You point out that I’m a lying scumbag who is totally incompetent and entirely unqualified to be Chancellor…I mean…Landlord 👀😅

So I say that I’ll ummm, errr, ummm…offer additional support! Yep, additional support! 🥳

But then I ignore you for 3 weeks…

You keep asking where the promised support is, but I don’t answer you, because I’m spineless and in hiding…

Then, eventually, the big day comes…

The day you’ve all been waiting for…

I’m going to stand up and make things right, make things fair, once again…

But, instead of having the bo****ks to do it myself, I send a 12 year old lad in my place…

I get said child to tell you I’ll knock a little bit off the new £10 price tag, and henceforth generously sell the pint for JUST £8.50! To support you all, to help you out! ❤️

The original pint was a fiver. It’s now £8.50.

You tell me, is that support? Is that help? Or am I being a conniving piece of s**t, who is unfairly targeting you and trying to spin it as support? 🤔

Let me know your thoughts below! 😅

This is Jack. Jack just filed the last tax return that was awaiting approval, with three days still to go to the 31st Jan Self-Assessment deadline!

That's because we proactively manage your accounts and tax affairs to get things done earlier to give you more time to budget for tax due, effect change and more.... We try to leave no-one behind because we know the downside of late filing.

Make your accountant more like Jack ;-)

"Analysts and ONS attribute slowdown to uncertainty ahead of Rachel Reeves’ tax-raising Budget" - you don't say.

Peerages for all!

'We are all accustomed to the proverbial 'rolling of the pitch', which essentially means that the government indicates where it intends to make major tax or spending changes in a bid to prepare financial markets for what it's going to announce,'.

'I'm afraid what occurred this year, with the shadow of the mini-Budget looming large, was less a rolling of the pitch and more akin to throwing several grenades on to the pitch.' - Dame Meg Hillier (Treasury Watchdog).

We're hearing from multiple businesses that the threat of further business rates increases and the ongoing higher cost of employment, has significantly harmed their plans going forward. I've spoken to two this week who have brought forward plans to retire. This is no way to run an economy.

Ever feel you're working twice as hard but for less money? You are!

In 2006/07, a small Ltd company making £55k pre-tax profits, could have given the sole director/shareholder £43k net in their pocket - an effective tax rate of just 22%.

But after the 2% dividend tax increase announced in the Budget and allowing for inflation to give an equivalent pre-tax profit of £100k, you could end up with £65k net - an effective tax rate of 35%.

So if your company profits kept up with inflation, you've had a 59% increase in your tax rate in 20 years.

It gets worse - if £43k was needed to break even on your living costs in 2006/07, then due to inflation and tax increases, you'll now be short by £13k because it will now cost you £78k to live, but your £100k only gives you £65k net.

In fact, RPI increases actually suggest that the core cost of living increases could push this deficit even higher...
